I recently saw a Soundcraftsmen PA 5001 amp for sale locally for $325 but know nothing about this amp. Seller sys it is rated 250 watts @ 8 OHM. I have been looking for a nice power amp to run my Polk SDA 2B tl speakers as well as my Dahlquist DQ 10 speakers.

I had narrowed my choice to a power amp to a Parasound HCA 1200 or HCA 1200 MK II as they get great reviews but I am having a hard time locating one of those Parsound amps.

Does anyone know anything about the Soundcraftsmen PA 5001? Is it a good amp? How is it compared to the Parasound HCA 1200? Should I just wait for a Parasound to come along or would the Soundcraftsmen be a good alternative for me? Finally, is the $325 asking price for the Soundcraftsmen a fair price?

Thanks.

I have a couple of Soundcraftsmen amps(A5002, and A2502 which I use to run side and back srround channel speakers), but know nothing about this model PA5001. The MA5002 with the big VU meters looks sweet. Honestly, I would pass on the PA5001 at that price. These older Soundcraftsmen amps are getting up in age and may require to be recapped and can also require some outputs transistors to be replaced because of the design of the amp needing to be turned on after the preamp is on and turned off before turning off the preamp. I may have that wrong and if I do , please someone chime in and correct me on this. If you can find a Parasound 1200 or 1200II in good condition for 300 or 350, grab it. Hopefully someone here can help you in the flea market:).

Thanks, polkie. I have decided to be patient and wait for a Parasound HCA 1200 or 12000 MK II to come along. I posted in the Wanted sectiion about a week ago but so far no leads on a Parasound. I guess it is just a matter of time. I will wait for one of those rather than rush into buying something else that I would not be as happy with in the long run. Thanks for the information and feedback. They are much appreciated.
