Strong Bad

Someone sent me this link showing an F-350 Diesel blazing the track in Las Vegas. Take note of it's final 1/4 mile time. Pretty sick!

See the smoke coming out of that thing, that's CRAZY

Hmm, something tells me that wasn't a stock 350.... However, that was nuts!!! How, who, and/or why would you do that to a huge truck! There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

Someone told me that diesel trucks can use propane or something similar as a type of "Nitrous".
He said thats most likely what the owner did and accounts for the huge smoke output.
Either way, sick time for a truck. That poor little white car had no chance in hell!No excuses! -
Actually, the PowerStroke diesel needs only a new downpipe, wastegate and boost controller to double the amount of power it makes stock. The parts cost less than 800 dollars and an afternoon's worth of time to install. Truckin' magazine did it in one of thier issues a couple years back. The truck started out running high 15 second quarter mile times. After performing those above modifications, the truck ran ~13.2X at 108.XX MPH or something along those lines.
Bully Dog has a propane injection kit which will give the truck an extra 100-300 horses at the push of a button, depending on the kind of kit you get. That truck most likely had propane injection on top of the modifications I mentioned and maybe even a SuperCooler intercooler coolant refridgeration system. The propane is usually what causes all of the black soot to come out of the exhaust. Diesels can also use nitrous but it is not as effective as it is in gasoline engines. That diesel in that F-350 was probably making about 500-600 horsepower and well over 1000 pound feet of torque. Couple that with the 4.10 limited slip rear differential and it makes for one quick tow vehicle!

I downloaded the vid, looks like crap, jumpy, frozen - anyone else have this?
I thought it was the 'stream' when I clicked the link....but even my download is jacked...
Someone email that to me, will ya?Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
Dam I never thought a diesal truck could run like that, Wonder what my Dodge Cummins would do and for how much, humm...
My luck it would scatter. -
OMG!! That was WAAAAY cool.
I thought maybe he had a Banks kit installed. 11's in the quarter - amazing.
Actually, I'm looking at a F-250 SD supercab with the 6.0 PSTD as my next truck. Mileage with a moderate foot gets in the low 20's. I'll probably get the FX4 OffRoad - 3.73 LS rear end is the hottest you can go with that option."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

Doc, have you coincidered the new Dodge with the new HO cummins? compared to the Ford PS the Dodge is quieter and gets 20mpg compared to Ford which gets 13mpg. The new cummins has a other improvements which for me makes it the better choice.
Food for thought
Dave -
What is your basis for the mileage figures?
I have not heard both side by side, but the Cummins has always been noisy in the past (might be quieter now).
I don't think you can get the Cummins HO in a single rear tire axle, can you? Dualie is out of the question for me."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

I think you can get the Cummins HO in single wheel axle configuration but you have to get 4 wheel drive and the heavy duty suspension which is stiff and very rough riding. It's excellent off-road or towing large loads but if you just need a road-going truck, that Dodge would not be my first choice by far.
Interesting tidbit of info. Ford has a controlling share in Cummins. Cummins is not owned by Dodge, they just get thier diesels from them. In fact, I think Ford is the only American manufacturer that builds it's own diesels. Some think that is bad, some think that is good.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Yes you can get the HO Cummins in 3/4-ton w/single rear wheel.
I have a 2000 1-ton daulie 4x4 HO Cummins deisel and it is a tad loud on first start-up but quiets down once warm as all are that way. My boss has had a '96' 3/4-ton 4x4 (standard) diesel (there are 3 versions of deisels, standard, HO 24-valve and the new HO) and the over-head compass/mpg display read a 20mpg average he then traded to a '02' Ford 3/4-ton 4x4 super-cab diesel and the over-head read 13.5mpg best and had constant problems with instant shut-down (no warning) and at times severe power loss when driving. Turns out after two weeks in the shop it was the cam position sensor (common problem w/Ford PS-diesels) and another sensor (don't know which one). He also has a '00' or '01' (can't remember which) PS-diesel Ford flat-bed (2-wheel drive 5-speed)and the 4.11 rear makes for horrable mpg (no over-head mpg reader but not needed because it is that noticably bad) and same problems with it too. He was so sick of the mpg and problems he just traded his '02'super-cab for a '03' 3/4-ton 4x4 Dodge w/the new HO Cummins and the over head mpg reader has never read lower then 18.5mpg and is quiet real quiet even on first start-up (makes mine sound sick). I haven't had a lick of trouble with mine and it pulls (for my side business) a 12,500# trailor everthing loaded including truck on the scale weighs 21,650# , but does it w/no problem. The new HO cummins precharges each cylinder w/fuel before the full charge resulting in a drastic decrease in noise leavel (not much louder then a gas engine (no joke). It also has been updated with a engine brake which adds to the breaking. I plow w/mine and can tell you that when I am plowing and hit the brakes I can feel it fighting the engine as the engine decelerates, the eng. brake ellimates that (good for emergency braking in traffic, God forbid you should have to). Now the 18.5mpg is for a diesel truck that has less then 1200mi on it and should get better in time after break-in, all trucks except the flat-bed are 4x4 automatics w/simular axle ratios (in the 3.0 range) and are snow prep ready, all 3/4-ton's needs the heaver 1-ton front axle or warrenty will be vioded (a friend of mine had that happen to him when he took it in for service and they seen the plow brackets) if you want a plow get the snow-prep or you could have suspension problems (adds to trade-in value also). The suspension has had updates also which gives the Dodge a even smoother ride then before, new springs and new more ridged frame (hydro formed) giving it better handling then the previous ones not to mention tighter turning radious. The Ford PS has gotten upgraded in the niose area too the newer ones are quieter then my '00' HO Cummins but the new HO Cumming is the queitest and best IMO. The Ford and Chevy have 8 cylinder and the Cummins is 6 cylinder which 6 firing will be quieter then 8 and better lower end torque for pulling and requires less fuel to feed 6 then 8. The ford's exaust really smells really bad (very pungent smelling compared to other diesels) I was told it was a result of the Cat. converter (I really don't know just know it stinks). I have just recieved a factory warning notice from an Ins. Co. that the new Fords rad. support is made from a Mag. alloy (to save weight) which under the right conditions will catch fire and can not be put out with anything but a special extinguiser, Water will cause it it explode!!. Air, smothering and any another extinguiser will cause it to spread (very bad idea). If you like I will fax that notice to you.
Here are the pros of each IMO
Dodge----Engine (cummins)
Ford
Suspinsion (off-road/ better for dump truck)
Chevy
Trans. (Allison, the best offered)
Here are the lows IMO
Dodge----Trans. (earlier years some say it was a problem, I have had none)
Ford
Engine (MPG, problems w/ sensors) Rad. support
Chevy---- Engine (The Duramax MPG close to Ford) front fenders very weak (look at the rise in the fender next to the winshield post and door it can be bent effertlessly, the rest of the fender is the same way)
Hope this helps

Ford bought Cummins after Dodge was putting them in there trucks and they were taking the deisel truck market. It is the way of business to own something the other uses as an atempt to not be left totaly behind. Dodge, I think ownes a part of Detroit Diesel but you will not see one of those in there trucks, they are just getting extra money from it, just as Ford is doing. Dodge also ownes/owned Lamborgini, now that is another story, but Ford is accually using an International/ Navastar built engine the same ones used in school buses. Ford and Int/Nav. got together to come up with the Power Stroke engine. As with alot of things we buy just has the others name on it. The Cummins has been the brute in my Co. and has performed flawlessly. -
Thank you for the insight and detailed information. I will be sure to give the Dodge a very careful look. My F-150 5.4 Supercab 4x4 has been a bit troublesome....but I'm pretty hard on it. I do all the scheduld PM, though."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

Hey right the engine doesn't sound stock maybe even a small block Chevy, the engine also is way forward being he could do a wheelie without locking front tires up.

I doubt the engine has been replaced. Those minis sound quite loud and rough, but it's possible. Add to that those minis are 2' shorter then the newer MINIs and there is almost no weight in the rear end.
But, I really have no idea. Just thought the vid was cool with that thing turning on a dime.If...

I'm gonna say that can't be stock. One, why would anybody 'race' a stock original Mini Cooper. I doubt it'd be in good enough condition for that. Two, I bet the stock brakes aren't THAT good.
That was very impressive to watch. I can't even seem to turn that sharp in my Cherokee.George Grand wrote: »
