....to the cold. While I enjoyed my little trip down to Florida, can't help but wonder why it is I live where I do. Not that Florida is my perfect weather location, cause it's not, but Chicago sure isn't either.
Anyway, had a nice trip down to Northport to visit with my old neighbors, went into Punta Gorda, Venice, Port Charlotte,Sarrasota. Then up to Clearwater beach to visit my daughter which was nice. Still, of all the times I've been to Florida over 30 years, my opinion hasn't changed. In my view, no offense to the good Polkies who live there, there's two camps. One camp is a giant retirement home with no fences. The other camp is those spring break boozeheads who went down there to party and never left. Just my observations. But, the food was good, ate more Grouper than I care to admit. Frenchies on the beach in Clearwater Beach was pretty good, as was the Palm on the beach.
I do have a few questions for you Floridians. Why in the world can't you find fresh fish for sale to the general public ? You can get shrimp no problem, fish...forgettaboutit. Why on earth can't you buy good wine ? Only a few stores like ABC sell good wine but they are few and far between. I guess retirees don't spend the cash for fresh fish or good wine ? Yet I see a ton of 100g+ boats in the harbors. Had to go to a few stores to find a couple bottles of 96 Silver Oak Cab. Oh, and if I have to drive behind another old **** turning right on HWY 41, I'm going to go postal. Other than that, the weather was awesome every day, ate like it was my last supper every night, and had a good visit with loved ones, life was good for a week anyway.

Problems with traffic and wine aside, it sure is nice to get away for awhile isn't it. My family and I spent 2 weeks up in the mountains in Gatlinberg right after Christmas, it was soo nice to get away.

I lived in Clearwater for a year about ten years ago and have a good friend who lived in Port Charlotte.

YEP, I dig moutains too. If California wasn't so expensive, I'd live there. You have great year 'round weather, sand, mountains, great wine, and fresh seafood. Maybe I should explore the Carolina's.
Mike,
I'm going to take you up on that someday. The wife has been trying to drag my arse their for awhile now. I hate long plane rides bro. Sitting still for that long, I dunno man.HT SYSTEM-

As I sit behind my computer typing this with the windows open enjoying the fresh air, I wonder why live else where. I remember my Vermont and Mass. years and get a chill.

Do you feel the same way in the summer? Or hurricane season? Not a slam, just curious...
I'd love some warmth myself right now...
