...any recommendations. From my research so farr:

...Mostly painless in collecting avi movies and downloading pics and info. This seems to work great for everything except .flv files. Anything out there that collect info for .flv's?
Trying out software before I make the move to permanently integrating.
Talking about movies compressed to hard drive....mostly avi.

I can't help on the software really as I use an applescript to tag my files.
However, I'd recommend that if you're ripping your library from DVD that you use a more modern container like mp4 that can use the H.264 codec, as I think that codec gives a better result than what can be used in the AVI container. MP4 also has a couple advanced features that AVI lacks. MKV is another option to MP4, but it's been my experience that EVERYTHING seems to play mp4 while some devices won't play mkv files. -
I save my movie collections to my Synology DS-711+ NAS, then stream to TV via the mede8er med1000x3d player. And I use the Y2M app to generate the mede8er jukebox database (http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_y2m_user_guide_V2.05a.html). This jukebox view is extremely cool: automatically importing movie info and generating Cover/Fanart/About/Folder images as well as letting me search via Year/Genre/etc...Gears shared to both living room & bedroom:

...My problem is that I started a long time ago converting movies. Have 2000 movies on assorted conversions. Mostly avi....but many .FLV,,,,,,, tv series and a few movies.

I use XBMCbuntu for my htpc. They have a Windows version for there software that I would assume would be able to catalog your stuff into it's layout and shouldn't matter what format it is as long as you have a codec installed for it. XBMC does seem to go by the file name for my movies and tv series though, I've never used it for music but I would guess it pulls in by the id3 tag. Not sure if this is what your going for, but maybe worth a look.
