Has any one heard of this website?

www.acoustechlabs.com

They are a canadian manufacture of speakers and I was calling around to places to get prices on the PSW-404 and a sales rep mentioned this company. He said that they made subs 12" and 15" that were in the same price range as the 404. The subs name for those who may have them or heard them are the
ALAS 12 250W
ALAS 15 300W

Any input?

I currently have the PSW 202 and im going to upgrade to something bigger (not SVS to rich for my blood)

Does anyone know of any canadian retailers that carry the 404 for a good price. So far I've seen ranges from $599 to $399

Thanks

Oh yeah one more thing,

Do you guys think the 550 is better or no big difference to the 404?

Hey I've been looking into new subs for about a month now and the first sub I looked at was the psw-404. It was great and everything until the guy at future shop said here try this one its better and he put on a Velodyne CHT-10. It was $650 instead of the 404's price of $600 but the extra 50 bucks is worth it cause it sounds way better. It has a deeper more rich sound to it. But then after I was convinced I was going to buy that one (or its big brother the cht12) I was told about the HSU VTF-2. Aparently it completely owns the cht10, although I haven't heard the sub (because they are made in the states and only sold over the internet) people have been telling me to just buy it and I will when I get the cash. Well check it out if you want. HSU VTF-2 O yeah theres also the STF-2 which is on the same line as the VTF-2 but i'll let you decide (its also $100 us cheaper).

The only reason I was considering the PSW-404 was after calling around I was able to talk Futureshop down to $400. For that price range the 404 looks to be a good deal. The velodyne (can't say that I've heard them) is on the expensive end approx. $250 more than the 404. I've tried to tract down the 505 but no one seams to carry it anymore, it seams to have been replaced by the 550.

michael_w: have you heard of a company called Burtek systems in BC?

Just so you fellow Canadians know, one of the best deals on subs in Canada is Adire products though CSS in BC or Paradigm subs which are made here. The Dharman and Rava are competitive with the HSU and SVS subs for less money here. I think that the Rava is about $600 CDN shipped. Just giving you another option.

I believe that the 550 is an older model, with a smaller sub than the 505. The PSW 505 is this years model

The 505 hits harder than the 404, I've heard them both. Right now I think the best sub deal is the Velodyne CHT15, Circuit City has them for 499 (US). They were priced at 699 a couple months ago.

Yeah when I went out and tested the 404 it was good but then I tried the cht10 and 12 and they worked the 404 for very close to the same price (within $50 for the cht10). However since there is a Creative Sound about an hours drive from where I live I'll be going and getting a rava instead of a cht12.

Looking for a good sub at a good price?

Take a look at the Adire Audio "Rava". It has the famous 12" Shiva driver and a 250w internal amp. Cost is $399 + shipping.

This is a very tight sub with no boomyness. Sounds great with 2 channel audio as well as 5.1 surround HT. Very nice wood veneer. No vinyl on the cabinet.

    Hi Guys,
I have a PSW505 I just received directly from Polk as a warranty replacement for a PSW150 I had purchased 5 years ago. Since then I have moved into a condo and have no use for a sub at all. The PSW505 is still in it's unopened box. If anyone is interested, I will part with it for $350.00 U.S. plus shipping costs. You can contact me at likecoiledsteel@yahoo.com.

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

    Hi Guys,
I had a PSW150 for years and had a very small problem with the woofer(dust cap fell off, uneffecting the sound). Since it was under warranty I wrote to Polk to ask for a new dust cap considering it is a piece of plastic worth maybe 25 cents. Instead they told me to return the entire woofer, so I did in July.
Months go by without word, turns out that woofer was backordered. More months go by, they offered to send me a new PSW505 because of the time I had waited. I had to return the amp from the PSW150. Then a few weeks later, the PSW505 showed up at my door.
I am very happy with Polk customer service. I now however have no need for a sub, so I plan on selling it to upgrade my amps. Anyone interested?
