PSW10 & TSI 200 - where's the boom?

Hi all,

Just outfitted my great room (2 story large room connected to kitchen) with Polk TSI 200 (front), Psw10, CS10, and TL3 (surround). My receiver is a Denon 1913. My Psw10 is hooked up LFE with a RCA cable.

I originally had some cheap Yamaha home theater in a box speakers hooked up while waiting for delivery of the TSI 200s and TL3. I ran Audyssey on the Denon and the PSW10 sounded great. I reran Audyssey when the 200s and Tl3s came in, now the PSW10 sounds weak even juiced all the way up. After Audyssey ran, it set the front speakers to Large and the crossover to 120 hz. I lowered the crossover back to 80hz but no noticeable improvement. The front and center crossovers are set to 40hz and surround to 100hz. The subwoofer level was set to -1.0db.

And suggestions on improving the bass output of the sub? Should I switch back to satellites instead of using the TSI 200s in my large room?

Set the tsi200 to small. and 80hz and recalibrate. You could also try setting it at 120hz. Whats happening is you tsi200 are running full range and since they cannot properly reproduce low freq. The sound is just lost. By setting them to small all the bass they would get is sent to the sub instead.

Also make sure the subs crossover is set wide open which should be 120 or 160hz.

Just bump the subwoofer level on the receiver up to your liking, just don't overdrive that little thing.

Specd_out thanks for the quick response. Audyssey on the Denon automatically sets them to large. I'll try again but I am sure when calibration is done, it sets it back to large with a 120hz. I set the low pass filter on the back to the highest setting / hz.

I havent used audyssey I use Pioneers Mcacc. But there has to be some sort of manual adjustment that keeps everything. Worst case just change the size and crossover. leave everything else the same

Yeah, I just did a lot of reading on Audyssey and it sends info to the receiver and Denon decides to use it. I will raise tthe crossovers on my front and center speakers to 80hz. Audyssey also recommends raising the crossover freuqency for the sub to 120hz. I'll try this tomorrow.

That sub isn't really going to give impressive output. I had two when my roommate had them years ago. In a room much larger than 10x10 it's going to have limited output. I'll never own one again - my PSW150 from over a decade ago pounces all over it.

Audyssee eq'd your sub to match/blend with your mains. You can adjust the output level however the eq has the individual hz. turned down and cannot be adj. The only real solution is to turn off audessey eq after it sets your dist. And levels.

I have the Yamaha equivalent to Audyssey and found my new DSW 550 sub a little light as well on first set up. When I reread what to do before the auto set up, it told me to ensure I had the sub volume turned down to half or less volume before running set up. Made a world of difference and gave me some "breathing room" to adjust the volume up if I wanted more punch. Don't know if this will help in your case, but maybe try your sub volume at a low level before running Audyssey, nothing to lose but a little of your time...

Listen to what spec_d out said: LFE, fronts to small, and take it from there.
