Friend wants me to ask if he needs a receiver if he goes 2.1 like polk psw505 and 45b bookshelf to connect it to the tv or pc, also i went to Bestbuy the other day and i was listening to some bose speakers and they sounded great i loved the sound from them. if you see this video @ 0:30 those where the ones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYsDFc-FD94 .

i was wondering if the polk 45b/35b sounds just as good as those bose.

I work for BB and I can promise you what you hear at the store is not how they sound at all in your home. Bose uses edited audio files to enhance the sound those systems make.

While its a decent systems Its not worth more than $500 the people who pay $1800 for it are just nuts.

Small BB stores speaker selections are nothing great. Best ones we have are The Pioneer speakers and the polk tsi100s. Kilpsch are nice but are a little harsh for music.

You dont have to do a AVR for 2.1. It would be the cheaper option. The other route would be preamp and amp.

    Thanks...
am i better off with polk 45b or 35b i don't no much about sound quality etc but is it worth the extra 30-40$ to go for the 45b and at the 200$ price range for a subwoofer, is polkpsw505 the best option?

This is how it's going to be connected to the pc/tv pc has a 3.5mm jack, tv doesn't but on the tv i will only be using my ps3 and i can use the red and white from the ps3 wires idk nothing about preamp and amp what would be a good choice of preamp and amp for this system.... how would i even connect the amp/preamp looked on amazon and typed those in and found this 2.

You need an AVR or a Pre Amp and Amplifier. The pre amp you posted is a phono pre amp. It is designed to boost the single from a turn table to normal leves that the rca inputs use. If you pluged a turn talbe in to the common L&R audio inputs it would be very quite becuase the turn table puts out a low level signal.

As for that amp you listed. I wouldnt even really call it one. I would take the two 10w tv speakers over that setup.

If you want HD audio from your PS3 then you are going to have to use a HDMI cable. So you would go HDMI from your PS3 to the AVR then HDMI to your TV.

If you get a Audo Video Reciever (AVR) then you wont have to switch inputs on your tv. The AVR will switch the sound source and video source at the same time with a push of a button. You can run just a 2.1 system off a 5 channel AVR, and you would at least have the option to upgrade to a 5.1 later on if you wanted to.

Here is a good place to get discounted refurbished home theater recievers for a good price. If you go with an Onkyo TX-NR709 or NR717 or higher you will be able to add an external power amplifer later on down the road. The lower Onkyo's dont have analog pre out conections to you hook the power amplifer up.

Whats your buget for the speakers? For the sub?

If you check www.newegg.com on the weekends the DSW Pro 440, 550, and 660 WI subs go on sale. The 440 is an 8", 550 is 10" and the 660 is 12". They are really good subs for the money when on sale. I have ran the 550 and currently 660. The 660 plays a little lower but the 550 is no slouch. I havent herd a 440, but would take the 10" 550 over the psw505. The 550 usually goes on sale for $299 wich is $100 bucks more than the psw505 but it is worth it in my oppinion.

Polk is also running a free PSW111 sub promo. When you buy $499 in polk speakers you get a free psw111 wich is $299. You can chose to get that sub free or use $299 twards a better one.

The 45B's are the newest version of of polks Monitor series speakers. The monitor II's and the new 45B's are only avalable through new egg. They are good speakers for the money, new egg wanted to continue to sell them after polk introduced the TSI line. The TSI are the replacement series for Polks Monitor line.
