I bought these recently. Do I need the sub with these? I thougt they sounded great before I hooked up the sub. With sub there is plenty of bass, but the warmth and definition is gone. Now it sounds like any old sub/satillite combo. I looked at the low end frequency response of the two, and I dont see much difference. Crossover on receiver set at 80, lowest it will go.

+1, I ran monitor 60's with a psw505 and it did a great job on the low end.

I think you may have a placement issue, or the sub needs to be dialed in correctly. Sometimes moving the sub a foot or so will correct this problem. I'd recommend doing "the sub crawl", and re-run whatever calibration program your AVR uses, and give it another listen. Also when calibrating turn the volumn to somewhere 1/3 to 1/2. Gives you a little headroom, and prevents overdriving the speaker.

I returned the psw110 and got the psw505 from newegg. Night and day difference! The sub is now "invisible" , the bottom is just there and solid. Instead of rumble and thump that sounds seperate from the rest of the system, it just sounds like the mains now have lower response. Thats what I mean by invisible. Thx so much for the newegg suggestion.
