I like the looks of that receiver but prefer the "unnatural sound" of vintage Marantz gear better........HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable
2 Channel Thorens TD 318 Grado ZF1, SACD/CD Marantz 8260, Soundstream/Krell DAC1, Audio Mirror PP1, Odyssey Stratos, ADS L-1290, ICs-DIY Twisted , Speaker-Raymond Cable -
Looks-wise, some very nice looking pieces (Mac, Marantz, HK). Further down the page, was a horn design that, IMO, would fit very nicely in a French baudy house. Not that I've ever been in one, but if I were ever to go to one, I wouldn't be surprised to see it there.
Going a little further down was this ..... umph ..... oh ...... my ......
Right-clicked the picture to get an ID on this piece of art.

Hehehe ... small world.
Digging around some more, found quite a number of interesting discussions regarding the builder of this piece, Josh Stippich. VERY happy to see that it's not just a showpiece. Looks like Mr. Stippich was 25 when he built this particular piece. Cheese and crackers.

Well, not meaning to derail, dee1949, but your link brought a lot of beautiful pieces up, this being one of them.
That pic road the express lane to the "WOW" section of my brain.

...and about 3 or 4 pages back (and, yes, in a different league but still beautiful)

...Beauty is in the EYE of the beholder. My favorite cars are from the 50's. Favorite audio amps and receivers are the chrome monster amps of the early 70's.
...favorite turntable that i owned.....simplicity in design and built like a 50's car.....weighs a ton and black and chrome

Here are some of my pieces past and present. Pictures are fun!

....always loved the look of the Yamaha's of that era. Went well with Scandinavian furniture of that time period. They were also on the tail end of the monster amps competition.. Power and more power.

Think about what everything else looked like ca. 1977 (cars, clothes, hairstyles) and the crisp and (relatively) uncluttered look of the Yamaha line of the time is particularly remarkable.
"high(er) end" mass-market hifi of that era generally tended towards the Rococo :-)

...Yamaha was the transition into the modern era. Simple and elegant. Blend into any design. The ole Pioneer etc.....with the CHROME and knobs....left behind. Brushed aluminum !!!!
-
Well - in fairness, some of the mid-1970s Pioneer stuff was also fairly elegant. Some got a little bit much.
The cheaper ones of the SX-*50 era were not bad (there's an entry level SX-450 and the entry-level of the subsequent model year - the SX-580 - in this little stack)...
The early, Japanese-made solid state Sherwoods aren't bad, either - I have sort of an inexplicable soft spot in my heart (or is it in my head?) for them.
Another personal fave is the mid-1970s harman-kardon receiver lineup: hk330c, hk430, and hk730. All very nice performers, too.
The A401 integrated amp (and, to a somewhat lesser extent, the A402 integrated) were also quite elegant, and the hk ST-6 and ST-7 turntables (with Rabco linear-tracking arms) were beautiful.
an hk430 (kind of shabby example thereof, unfortunately) and an A402 on the shelves in this photo...

The Avery Fisher stereo receivers of the mid-1960s are timeless.
