Pre-pro For Lsi
I have been trying to get better sound from my system when listening to cd's and when I occasionally listen to fm radio.MY amp is a adcom rated at 125 w per channel and my pre-pro is an ADCOM GTP -830.From reading this forum and others I have heard mostly good things about the adcom amp but I suspect that the pre-pro would be my first move to upgrade. Will a pre-pro make more of a difference in sound when dealing with seperates for LSI's?

Is it going to be used for music or HT? A pre is better for music but a pre-pro is better for HT. If you're looking for a 2ch pre for CD listening, tubes sound best to me. If you're looking for a pre-pro, check out Outlaw and Rotel. We need to know your price range before we can start recommending components.
The Adcom you own should be a good unit. What don't you like about it? What are you using as source?

My cd player is cambridge audio and I also have listened to cd's with my panasonic dvd palyer, the CA sounds better but bass is dull ,midrange hidden, overall sound lacks depth and punch.Volume level at -10 for loud but not excessive volume along with aforementioned concerns led me to believe the amp couldn't keep up or the pre-amp was not doing a great job transmiiting info to the amp.Is adcom junk?Would outlaw 950 or outlaw amp be better?I am new to home theater and had expectations of getting these speakers to reach thier potential for under 2500(pre-pro and amp).Anyone out there who works for polk and knows what would be the best ht seperates?

I just went through what you are going through now.
I am just sharing results of my search/research.
I think more power will certainly benefit LSis but I think what you is good enough to start with.
As Organ mentioned, for pre you can use Tubes and possibly you will be happier if you did.
ASL AQ2004 can be a good starting point, cheap and good.
If phono & remote capability is imp. then you can go to their AQ2006 or may be used CJ or AR SP16 in that price range.
If SS Pre you want, I would go with Rotel 1066. Used can be had for $900-$1200. Good for ST & HT with all the latest formats.
For amplifier Rotel RB-1090 can be had for $1000.00-$1300. Best value for your money, not expensive but enough power to drive any thing. They are monoblocks sharing same chasis. Separate outs for Bi-Wiring, realy a big plus for LSi owners.
For amplifier I wont go with Tube amplifier unless untill you can afford amplifier with power more than 100W, I have Jolida 1000A, it does good job of driving my LSi15 but, with lots of volume, that makes me think that its too much for him.
These are just my opinion, listen to more experienced and knowledgeable people before taking a decision. Thanks
