Patty Andrews has passed away at age 94. The Andrews Sisters were probably one of the very best harmonizing musical groups ever. Patty had a great_ voice and sang most of the lead vocals and harmonized beautifully with the other 2 sisters. I don't know if we will ever see another 3 part harmony group that was as precise and polished as The Andrews Sisters, they did all this without any auto tune or digital recording . I would have to say back then, multitrack wasn't invented yet and everything was recorded all at the same time, if one person screwed up the recording ,it had to be done all over.

Spinning up some Andrews sisters now in memory of a great lady. I remember my stepdad having the hots for Patty back in the day.

RIP Patty and thanks for the music and the memories.

RIP Patty. I picked up an Andrews Sisters' Greatest Hits at a thrift store about a year ago. Some great stuff on it. Her heyday was, what 70 years ago. . . . . .

She was the longest lived - one sister died at the age of 55, the other at 78.

Sure sounds better when people sing and harmonize without the "aid" of autotune.

My mother loved the Andrews Sisters. I rember her spinning a few of the old songs. "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B" is still being performed today and is a great dance tune. RIP Patty!

Check out the youtube videos on the MSN link, the "What's My Line" video brings back many memories of my youth on Sunday nights. Look Here!

I don't have direct memories of anything more than my stepdad spinning the old 78's, and the way he would zone out while listening. I acquired a real love for their music from him, as well as a deep appreciation for the "Big-Band" sound. That was some damn good music, and to have well recorded examples make remembering my grandparents, and my stepfather a musical treat.

It's funny how music is so powerful at evoking memories of other times, places and people. My mother used to love Frank Sinatra and played his "Live at the Sands with Count Basie" all the time. A couple of years ago I bought a copy, put it in the CDP and hit play - there I was back in the mid 60's again!

The McGuire Sisters got popular about 5 to 10 years after The Andrews Sisters were the big act. Similar style of harmonies but, The Andrews Sisters were impeccable with their harmonies. I think song "Mele Kallikimaka" sung by Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters will be a Christmas staple for many__ years to come.
