How many of us started this audio journey, with a portable cassette player sitting in front of an AM radio, waiting for our favorite song?

Fingers on the play and record buttons, like a gunfighter, LOL. Ahhh the memories.

A Nagra portable was a step up from the portables I had. It was probably a step up from my first cassette deck, a Vivitar.

    RIP

One Christmas my parents gave me a Lucor tape recorder that they bought from Western Auto (anybody remember them?). I used it to send tapes to my relatives in Ireland and play the ones they sent back. I was a big Steve Allen fan then and I would stay up and record the "phony phone calls" he would do. The microphone on the ottoman in front of the TV speaker and watching the "magic eye". It just fascinated me that sound could be "captured" that way, it has never ceased to amaze me.

My first tape recorder was a little 3" Claircon (not Clarion) - knowing my father, probably sourced from Kann Ellert Electronics up on (or at least near) "TV Hill" in B-more. :-)

    I was a little kid.

A Nagra or a Stellavox remains on my hifi bucket list (FWIW).
