Thought I would post a picture of my newly aquired SDA 1B's. While many would find these to be somewhat large speakers, you can see them in comparison to the rest of my home theater. Many thanks to all who have endured my questions and those who have helped with cables and documents. I really appreciate the helping hand to a newbie.

Appologies for the kind of off color of the photo. Hard to shoot by halogen light.

So what do you notice when comparing the SDA's to the ML's? Never heard the ML's for myself.

Your first, but probably not your last. Looking forward to a full report.

Looks GREAT, and damn those electrostats are HUGE.

Sweet, the refinishing is very nice. You will get hungrier for larger and more fearsome SDA's....its your destiny now :D

Ward - Is that little blue chair in your entertainment center your listening chair? It looks a little snug for long term demo's :D

Thanks guys, glad you approve. yes, this is my mega system. I have the Carver A-760x pushing the SDA's (380 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 600 watts per channel into 4 ohms and 1150 watts per channel into 2 ohms). I really want to spend some extended time listening to these. On initial listening, they are very open, clean highs and good bottom end. Still gotta quit looking around for where the sound is coming from. :D

FYI: the chair was my Father's when he was a toddler.

Here is a close up pic of one SDA

I will admit, it was kind of fun to see you looking to your sides during your SRS 2 demo at my house.

SDA's give a whole new meaning to the word 'soundstage', don't they?

    Cheers,

    WOW, really nice!!!!

    Great setup, I'm envious!

Great to have another Carver fan 'round here.

Russ has done nothing but sing Wardsweb praises to me, in fact I'm surprised he didn't try and hump his leg at some point.

Troy, look at the first picture he posted.

That is ONE room in his humble abode. Think about that. The guy has to either unass some gear SOMEDAY, or die.

Now do you understand why I'm so nice to him (or YOU for that matter)? Sheesh.

Well after getting the interconnect cable and spending a little time adjusting placement , preamp input levels and amplifier gains, I sat down for some dedicated listening. These speaker do some pretty incredible things. Of course the soundstage is huge, as you know and I'm finding out. These is such depth, excellent imaging, three-dimensional presentation, and sweet highs. At this point, you might be wondering if I like these speakers :D As my daughter would say "well DUH!". My only problem now is finding out where in the house to put them.

Ward - I think it is really neat that you have become a SDA'er. I know that you are fully audio tuned, why havn't you done this earlier? Had you heard of the SDA's previously?

Do you find it is more a novelty effect or genuine? I remember a comment in Stereophile, I believe that was the publication, damning the SDA's as a novelty...and that has always bothered me. I think anything against the grain, or "new" could be classified in that same silly bracket.

It is interesting to hear so many people praise the effect.....and Polk not hear that anymore.....so many people STILL own their SDA's....or buy new SDA's(To Them)....and Polk is still waffling.

Not only had I never heard of it, I didn't know what it was after I bought them. It came as a total suprise that I needed a cable to hook my speakers together. Now I understand the crossovers working in conjunction to drive the speakers to take Carver's version "sonic holography" to the next plane or spatial dimension, if you will. This isn' t the Twilight Zone it's the "SDA Zone":D

    Yeppers... :)

What really hooked me was the size of the SDA effect. While SH is about a head width, SDA is easily three full seating positions.

While dead center is still the sweetest for SDA listening, at least those flanking you aren't saying, "I don't get it..."

The chair is a keepsake, as it was my father's when he was a little boy. My father died when he was ony 53. I lost out on many a year of electronics, audio and music. They were his passions too.

As for the vinyl. I'm not a die hard vinyl guy, but I do appreciate a good clean piece of vinyl. Mainly used in my other audio only system with a Rega Planar 3.

Did you build those cabs yourself? If so, could you point me in the direction of some plans?
