Is being the most obvious always true (amp and pre same make)

Here's what I mean.I think I'm done w/ my speaker hoarding until I can get a great deal on either a Vandreseeten SIG
or an Ohm/Walsh 2xo. With that being said the next move would be a pre.Right now my Onkyo P-301 works fine and has as many in and outs that I can use w/ a working remote. So what I'm asking my amp is an gfa555 would going w/ an Adcom pre like a GTP450 or 555 make that much of a dramatic difference to a coal ear like me. Yes I can lay off buying stuff so it's just an opinion I would want here. It seems that common sense tells you that the
same company would build gear that is tuned to each other that they would compliment both. This I hear is not
always true .

The Adcom tuner/pres are nice "starter" units IMHO. I've owned the 400 and the 500. I still have the 400 if your interested. I wouldn't begin to try and tell you if you'd like an Adcom better than your Onkyo, only you can make that call after listening to both.If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

I have that model Onkyo pre and am very pleased with the performance of it! Not the only one I have but it is the one that is used most. Like was said before let your ears be the judge!

Lateral move in my book. If your asking if brand matching pre's and amps is ideal, I'll say not necessarily.HT SYSTEM-

Do you require a remote control? That will greatly adjust what preamps you can look at.

The Arcam for sale here is a few steps up of either of your pre's.HT SYSTEM-

I do require a remote. That said my Onkyo 301 does have one and most of the Adcoms for whatever reason are mostly missing. They can be had though. Seeing that most here agree the Onkyo p-301 is ok to good and while keeping Adcom w/Adcom is nice it's not the end all be all so for now it's the Onkyo unless it just dies. Thanks for the opinions and all made clear and concise sense to me.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E
