This fairly new offering from Dayton looks like a fun DIY sub build:

Anybody tried this yet?

Wish I had the dough to try it out!--Gary--
Onkyo Integra M504, Bottlehead Foreplay III, Denon SACD, Thiel CS2.3, NHT VT-2, VT-3 and Evolution T6, Infinity RSIIIa, SDA1C and a few dozen other speakers around the house I change in and out. -
I always liked the look of the baskets Dayton used....
Looks like a sweet driver for sure- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

I have the 8 inch version, but not quite the same I suppose
But even that little guy is really punchy and clean and digs surprisingly deep. I bet that 18 inch bad boy is awesome...Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

After looking into that flat pack I noticed this:
http://stereointegrity.com/index.php?id=60
They are on pre-order now but that is a really nice looking budget 18" sub and here is a really nice build:

Now THIS has gotten my attention.... How would they dayton and the flat box from DIY sound pair up with a Crown XLS1000? I believe this would be an improvement over my Outlaw, and I've been looking for something to dump my money into this spring! Any comments?

Sounds like a great idea to me and the Crown a forum member is currently selling is a fantastic deal. -

What do you mean??
I need to do some more reading on it but I'm really thinking hard. I've got a buddy who used to finish furniture in Charlotte and I think we could make this look really good... -
Please, someone talk me in or out of this option. I'm itching to pull the trigger on the driver, amp and flat pack box offered. I really wonder how this would stack up against my dream sub, JL f113. I've already got the EQ (SMS-1) so, this *seems* to be a great option for me. I can't say that I'm in any way unhappy with my current Outlaw sub.. Well.. You know how it goes...
-
Note the seller of the flat pack says the Dayton version is sold out. Of course if you call him things may be different.
Be like Nike and "Just Do It". -
If they're sold out, it's only temporary. Maybe a week to couple of weeks or so."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Also consider the Setreo Integrity HT 18:

As for SI woofers, I believe there's a wait.
Another worthy contender: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=295-514&scqty=2"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -

From what I understand the Dayton really competes at a fourth of the price... -

Indeed the flat packs are back in stock now for the 18" Dayton. If I was in the market for a sub this would be my top choice. -
Parts Express is about 20 minutes north of me.....

The XLS 1000 Bridged for 4 Ohm would give you 1100 Watts (this is a 1KHz rating) I would recommend the XLS2000. I have the Crown XTI2 4002 to play with for a week and that would be the amp to drive a pair of those 18's. 3200 watts bridged  -
Skip the XLS1000 and go right to the 1500 or 2000.
The XTI series is perfect for a sub though, it's easy to add any boost/eq. But for a pair of subs, you would want to look bigger than the 1002."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche
