Hi all I'm a newbie to the home theater world and have a few questions about my setup

Onkyo TX-NR616
2x Polk Monitor 75t - crossover - 80(thx)
Polk PSW505 - LFE 120

I let Audessy on my onkyo set the system up then changed the speakers from 40 to 80 as I saw everyone post that on forums. My sub at the rear is turned to basically the damn near off position and still produce great bass at LFE 120.

I believed this would be sufficient equipment as im no audiophile but I'm not over the moon about it. Yes they are loud and don't distort etc but at low-mid volume which is how i tend to listen to music, I have plenty of bass but the clarity and volume of the vocals and actual music isn't what i would call amazing or crystal clear. I feel like the high end of the range(im guessing here) isnt either all that good, or isnt enough on these speakers. and the mid range is kinda average.

Can someone confirm, Is it the fact I have no center channel? are the monitor 75t's not up to the job and i should of gone more expensive? have I probably configured something wrong?

my room is 17" x 13" but its actually open plan to a large kitchen and dining room too. The speakers are either side of the TV.

    Welcome to Club Polk!

If I'm not mistaken the 75ts are simply a redo of the M-70 tower (somewhat similar). Having experience with the older tower I can tell you that DSkip is correct. You'd be surprised at the difference you would hear running the Onkyo vs. running a 200 watt x 2 power amp on those speakers. They WAKE up, the bass has more weight, the highs are cleaner and the mids reach out into the room, and this is just an "entry" level Polk tower!

AVRs and Pre/pros also make a difference. For example. Though I like my M-70s on the Onkyo 805 (all 51 lbs of it). Musically, I preferred them on the Denon below with an Adcom GFA-555 power amp on them.

If you keep your system as is, I recommend corner loading the towers! Get them close to the opposite corners of the room and toe them in to form a triangle with the listening area, then play with your crossover some. Try sliding the crossover point up and down from 60 hz up to 80 hz and see what sounds "better" to you?

Placement is a little finicky with these speakers, IMO.

Since you let the auto calibration do it's thing, did you ever go back and tweek the settings ? My guess is your speaker levels are too low. Reset them to 0 and adjust to your liking up or down to balance out the sound. Also, just my opinion, but I like floorstanders set to large instead of small for a fuller sound.

I know everyone says don't bother but I just bi amp my 75t's to my onkyo tx-nr616 and all is fix they sound fantastic.
Wonder why no one else sees any difference and I do?
Also turned off dynamic eq seems to allow better balance.
Thanks for all the advice guys I'm now very happy with my Polks.

Why are you using an AVR to listen to 2 channel music?
