Nice. For music you should be fine. They will produce a sufficient amount of bass. For movies your gonna want some kinda sub to handle to lower frequencies.
Did you get the HK 1700 at BB when it was $199? Its a hell of a deal at that price.HT Rig Samsung 64F8500 |Pioneer Elite BDP-52FD|Pioneer Elite VSX-32| Two Carver TFM-15cb Bridged for mains|Polk Audio RTiA5 Cherry|Polk Audio CsiA6 Cherry|Polk Audio T-15 Heights|Polk Audio FXia6 Surround|DIY 8cuft Dayton Ultimax 15" powered with a Crown XLS1000

Welcome to Club Polk!
As said above, you'll probably be OK for music but I'd, also, add a sub for HT then build the rest of the system from there. Add a CS2 (center channel) and hang some M-30s or M-40s around the sides and back. If you're on a budget roll over to newegg.com and see if you can get the Polk PSW 505 SUB on a sale! Or just wait for one!
199 ain't bad for an entry level HK. Well worth it!
Enjoy!

found it new on ebay for 200 thought it was a good deal. looking for sub maybe 10 or 12 not sure yet.

If you have the cash on hand, newegg currently has the PSW 505 (which) would match up nicely with your system, for only 189.99 with free shipping:

Something to consider?

I was just reading a review on newegg on the PSW 505 and in one of the negative comments the guy said " the wife and the dog hate it, ( but they don't like anything fun.)" I thought that was funny. I just bought one of these for my main HT switching out a still breathing Klipsch 10" who just had his 18th birthday. The polk slams hard and both me and my dog love it.:loneranger:Main Family Room: Sony 46 LCD, Sony Blue Ray, Sony DVD/VCR combo,Onkyo TXNR 708, Parasound 5250,

so like i said how do the monitor 50s sound and will i need a amp
-
They should be fine. They're fairly efficient, and besides you CANNOT add an amp to an HK 1700 because it has NO pre-outs, so the question is not relevant.
