What would you do? And why?

I am tossing around the idea of selling my tgp3 cg425 and oppo93 outright and buying the sc68 and elite bdp. other than the obvious loss of wattage that does not always mean much, would the trade for automation and simplicity in the hookup out weigh the loss of power? And for those that have first hand experience, what did you think when you went from the Sunfire to the Pioneer setup?

Is 1700+ship too much for my Cinema Grand 5 x 425? I have the plate and such. Not the original box but they are available and I would procure one prior to shipment if need be. I've been looking and it seems about right. Maybe a little low compared to agon...

What I have in mind is to sell my pre, amp and oppo, put 5 hun with it, and get the sc68, elite bdp and charleys 2.3s. Does this seem feasible or am I reaching at all?

I see 17 for the amp 5 for the tgp and 400 for the oppo and 5 hun cash. 2.3 are 8, sc68 is 1850 and the elite bdp is around 400 I think. Math seems doable if my estimations are close.

Thanks,

1c

I see nothing wrong with swapping out for the Elite receiver. The BDP however, I'd stick with Oppo or even their newer models.

You're going to need some muscle to power those 2.3s. I wouldn't be in a huge rush to get rid of your Sunfire Cinema Grand unless you have another amp. What is the tgp3 btw?

tonyb that's the word I just received from the local HiFi. They said keep the oppo. That the elite bdp is a "slug".

Dawg You hit my concerns there that's for sure. I know I won't be able to talk the wife into the sc68 without selling the amp. Maybe best to sneak up on the wife with Charleys 2.3's and shelf my 1c's. Probably the cheapest and safest way to move along without selling something I really wish I had kept.

If I do wind up with the 2.3, which I have been trying to figure for the last 6 months lol, then how do the 1c fair as rears?

I'm thinking without the proper power, you're not really going to see much(or any, without the proper power they could be worse) of an improvment with the 2.3s over your 1Cs currently being powered with the CG. Also room size will be a big factor. Those 2.3s are going to need more room to breath. What are your listening preferences (HT vs. 2 channel)? If music is a priority and you don't have one already I would consider adding a good 2 channel pre with HT bypass to your current set-up over going with the SC-68. That would maximize the potential of your current set-up.

The Theater Grand Processor 3 is a capable pre just doesn't have the best gui and real time adjustments for timing and distance are a nogo. The catalyst for this idea is convenience for the wife in switching. Maybe the Sunfire remote does all of that but I have not figured it out yet if it does. The punch feature is good but switching all components simultaneously seems to be a shortfall. The TGP has a direct or pass though 2 channel and an 8 channel option. Connection to CD from the two channel out on the oppo is how I have it set now for analog. I fear this idea will be short lived lol. I am happy with the Sunfire less the switching and honestly it isn't a big deal to me. Just wanting to try something new and incorporate Charleys 2.3's along the way.

If simplifying switching is a priority maybe adding a Harmony remote may simplify things to make it easier for her. You can program the Harmony for activities (watch TV, listen to music, etc.) and by pressing a button for each activity the Harmony will automatically turn on and off the proper conponents and switch to the proper inputs, etc. Programming the Harmony remotes is pretty straight forward and once it is set-up, it works well. Just a thought.

I looked at that to dawg. There is another option in that area the RTI. I have not done enough looking to compare to the harmony but with the problems Logitech is having I am a bit leery.

Yeah that is a legitimate concern, but you get the idea. The RTI you mentioned or other programmable universal remotes (I've seen some others similiar to the Logitechs and the RTI, but I can't remember what brands they are right now) sound like they would be a good option.

Remember over on the Pioneer Elite vs.Oppo thread earlier this month, people had noticed the newer Elite BDPs just weren't as solid as they used to be. Gotta love Oppo, I'm enjoying my BDP-103.

The RTI is a great remote but requires programming through there proprietary programmer through an authorized dealer. I love mine

RTi has a new consumer line (http://www.procontrol.com/pro24z.html) but I don't have any experience with this one yet.
