For sale is my very nice Kenwood KA 8100 dual mono integrated amp with original box and packing.. This is not some garage/estate sale find but my own unit and treated as such. This amp was made by Kenwood 1976-1978 and is 75 watts per channel iinto 8 ohms and 90 watts per channel into 4 ohms. The amp has been recently serviced and is excellent operational condition as everything works as it should. The case and rear panel are in great shape as are all the knobs and levers. The faceplate is also very nice but ther are some spots of slight discoloration that are hard to see straight on. Not sure if they are light scratches or something got on it but you have to look at it sideways to really see them. I tried several methouds to remove them but nothing worked and they are so not an issue I gave up. Overall extremely sharp looking. The original power cord has been reattached and soildered as use a detachable cord with my gear.
Unit features, bass and treble controls with defeat and turnovers, gain +10db/muting -10db, three postion loudness with with defeat and choice of (50HZ or 100HZ), subsonic, low and, high filters, mode switch(mono, stereo, reverse). Inputs for tuner, aux, phono 1 and phono 2 as well tape1 and tape 2. Also has preamp out/main amp in terminals. Can drive 2 sets of speakers and headphones Needless to say the controls have a very nice feel and the volume control (32 step) is the reall deal Very well calibrated
The original box is in decent shape with some bends and the packing foam has some cracks. Also includes a coy of the owners manual. Overall beautiful looking, works great and built like a tank at 32lbs. The original box is a huge bonus. Asking $195 Thanks,

$195?
Wow.
I had the KA9100 - as I loved the meters...this vintage stuff is sweet and good! GLWTS!

These Kenwoods often fly under the radar but they are very nice sounding amps. I have a KA-7300 that is also a Dual power model and its very "clean", toward the neutral side of the sound spectrum but with enough weight to power most of my speakers even though it is a lower 65 watt x 2 compared to Keith's higher model.
You want to start building a nice vintage two channel system. This is a good place to begin!
GLWTS!

Greetings Geppy! Very nice Kenwood these are great units that have wonderful sonics. I have had a couple of different ones over the years.
I am curious about the power cord. Did you cut the cord and install an IEC pigtail? Or, did you de-solder the power cord inside the unit on the chassis, then solde an IEC pigtail? I'm very curious as I know that you have done this to several of your nice pieces that you have posted for sale.
Best regards,Carl -

IIRC He cuts the actual cord outside the unit, solders on a IEC for his powercord and then does the reverse when selling."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." What is the advantage (if any) of doing that? I know I've been tempted by several of his units till I see the part about the power cord being cut and re-atttached. -
I used to have this same amp running a set of JBL L150. Actually I miss that setup sometimes! I loved the adjustable loudness on it and the phono pre is better then you would think.Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's.

I use a VH audio detachable power cord with the gear. When comparing I have to be consistant as it makes a difference.. I used to put an actual IEC socket on the back of units but that cannot be undone. The inside terminals can often be hard to get to and the plastic cinch plugs are often hard to get out and often break. The cord has been twisted, soildered and taped (each side). NEVER been a problem People do it with vacums all the time. I have received items that have had taped cords and never thought much of it. Just was careful with it.

Very true both this unit and my lower model are among the BEST pre-amps Kenwood offered in that period! So if you thinking about that. That's a PLUS!

Look on the pot and you'll find the specs printed on it. That may enable you to find a suitable modern replacement. Another thought, I believe the same pot was used on the 7100 and 9100.

It appears yours is a volume and balance pot combo. This is a pic of it.
You'll never find a modern combo replacement, but you should be able to find a volume only replacement.
