Can't decide LSiM 703 or 702 for surround

Hi,

I'm getting ready to get a LSIM 5.1 package but couldn't decide what color (I have not seen either cherry or mahagony in person, there is none available in VA) and what to get for the surround channel, 703 or 702. The front will be 707s and 706c. Is there anyone have this setup? Please comment. Thanks in advance.

For surrounds it all depends on the room configuration. I like my surrounds above my head so the 702's would be my choice. I'm currently running 705's 706 and inceilings for the surrounds. Will be getting the 702's shortly.

Thanks for the response, will the 702 be behind or on the side in your room? I don't really have an option for the sides due to the 702's sizes but might be able to have the 702s/703s mounted behind from the ceiling. What color do you have? I have a hard time deciding cherry or mahagony but it seems the mahagony will blend in easier with most subs but the cherry looks stunning too....

Behind, then I'll move my inceilings to the side because one side has a wall and the other side is open. Here's a quick pic.

Thanks for the pic. I, too, like the surround over my head - I probably go with the 702s and have them behind and above to see how they sound. Now, I lean toward the cherry, more contemporary looking than the dark mahagony.

    Anggiap,

Not sure if I can help at this time. Im hooking up that speaker config this week in my HT. 705,706c up front and 703 rears. I have the 707s on another side of my basement. I will have to wait before I will be able to comment on the sound.

One thing I will say is the 703s are not tiny. they are really quite big and bulky as rears unless you have plenty of space behind your last row. I have custom shelves built to hold them off the wall...about 20"...kind of bulky but the best way for me to get the right height in the back.

If I can offer my thoughts before you move fwd I will. If not good luck with your system. The LSiM 707 rock! I love them. They have been in duty in my bedroom until I finally do the install downstairs. Thats finally happening this week. Cant wait!

Thanks for your response, with the 703s, I can put them on the side where I had the Linn Ninka there but I hate using speaker stands. From my listening spot, it's about 7' to both sides or 11' to the back where I plan to ceiling mount the 702s. My backwall has custom built-in storage do I can't put any speakers on the wall, have to stand on the floor which will be blocked by the second row.

I guess if I have to, I can still mount the 702s on the side walls but it will be slightly in front of the listening position which I don't know how it will effect the surround sound either. I guess I have to get them in and moving around to see where they sound best but it's a pain to find out it's not the right choice versus going with the 703s from the begining in a more traditional bookshelves hookup for the surround channel. I do realize that the 702s can be placed where the angle point toward the listening spot so it can be in front of or behind; that might work for me.

Please do let me know how the 703s perform in your setup, I can always add another pair to make it 7.1
