One lucky mo-fo

I am that lucky mo-fo. Thursday night I leave work around 7, and it is dark and raining a little. I roll up to a intersection where I need to turn left. A quick glance to right. All clear. Look left and a car is coming, but I can make it if I go. Take off. And out of no where there is a pick up truck in front of me turning left onto the street I am leaving. WTF! Turn to the right, but I hit the truck. He pulls over, and I back up onto the street I just left. He looks at his truck and says he is fine. I am looking at my car and no damage. I know we hit. I heard it. Later at home with more light I can see on the left front bumper where I hit him just enough to scrape paint of the bumper.

Other than being impatient, I think where I screwed up is that the pillars of the left/right side of the windshield create blind spots. My guess is as I rolled up to the stop sign, and glanced right, the truck was perfectly positioned in the blind spot. That was the first accident I have been in since the mid 70s, and the first one that was my fault.

I guess I owe somebody some karma for letting me get out of that with only some touch up paint needed.

Wow, that both unlucky and lucky! If it were me, my ride would be totaled and I'd be getting sued.

    That was close and lucky..
What kind of car do you drive as my 2012 Malibu has a large raked windshield with the pillars raking far out, very bad for blind spots..
    I bought it anyway, lol

Thats the first thing I look at when buying a car, blind spots. Seriously....and todays cars seem to be loaded with them due to their sleek designs.

It's not just the sleek designs, it's the huge A-pillars. The huge A-pillars are necessary to keep the whole natural frequency of the chassis down to reduce noise introduced/transmitted into the cab.

Glad you made it with mostly a good lesson. Driving is the most dangerous thing we do.

I rolled up to the intersection tonight and tried to visualize what happened. I definitely am looking twice to the right and left before going. Live and learn.
