Spent all my free time the last couple weeks wiring up the HT in our new house. Finally have things all set for the most part.
I sit down to watch The Last Waltz bluray (thanks Chumlie) and literally one minute in I hear a sound like white noise. I run back to the electronics to see if something is blowing up.
And then I feel my feet getting wet...oh no. I look up and theres a vent labeled H2O. I unscrew it and there is a knob which I turn off and the water stops.
Some sort of pipe burst. Spent the last two hours cleaning up. Have to call someone first thing tomorrow. Not a good situation. Luckily all electronics are good as the burst happened in that area.
Moved the bluray player upstairs and now I'm watching the damned waltz...dammit. And drinking f#@&ing brandy.

Who on this forum pissed water off? It's coming to get us all (well, you all, it already got me on Christmas Day).
I hear ya. Mom had water damage to the tune of $22,000+ on Thanksgiving. I'm just now getting her moved back in. What a PITA.If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money. -
Glad your gear is okay.
It's part of the downside of home theater systems so often being in the basement... we rent a townhome, and the 1st floor is the "Basement" since the house really starts on the 2nd floor... last summer, A/C leak--from the NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR flooded our basement. That was the moment I decided I would never own a townhome. I don't want to share a wall--and a potential unwanted indoor swimming pool--with anyone.
That was also the moment I was glad that all of my stereo gear--even the sub--were at least a few inches off the ground, since the carpet soaked first, and we were able to get things moved before anything serious got damaged.5.1 theater - Pioneer SC-07, Mirage OMD-CC center, 4 x Mirage Omnisats, Boston Acoustics VPS-210 sub

Yea, I have everything on a 'counter' that is on casters so we were good there.
We were able to limit the damage, and should only be out the cost for someone to tear into the drywal (5'x5' section) and replace about 4 feet of pipe.
The burst happened between the outdoor spicket and an indoor shut off valve which I didn't know I had. Apparently, I need to shut that off each winter. Was at least 20 degrees when the burst happened so it doesn't seem cold enough to freeze and burst a pipe.
Oh well, luckily we were sitting right there when it happened and not at work or something.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A -

it was pretty close to 10(Celsius, haha) on concrete, but the 36" was maybe about 50 F and in a 15 foot dep hole that was darn near quicksand, and i was laying on my stomach digging with my hands to find the hole in the underside of the pipe, it was fun,i will post pics of teh well pull we did, that was like 70 degrees though2 Channel(work in progress):DAC: Schiit modi 2 uberAmp:Parasound 1200 MK IISub:RBH 1010-SEP Speakers: Monitor 5A peerlesscurrently running some krk rokit 3g since the HK pre outs died and i need to start breaking everything down to move in a couple monthsHeadphones:Source: tidalDAC: schiit modius epre: schiit sysAmp: AQ dragonfly black/ schiit magni2 Cans: Velodyne V-True, Grado SR225i, sennheiser x drop gaming headsetPC:DAC: schiit modius e(over spdif)pre: schiit sysspeakers: prenous eris 5 xtSub: Earthquake Sound MiniMe-P63most of my comments are passing on of info, im a noob, im just trying to help how i can, if im wrong or out of place to comment, dont hesitate to let me know "WITH WILLING HEARTS AND SKILLFUL HANDS, THE DIFFICULT WE DO AT ONCE, THE IMPOSSIBLE TAKES A BIT LONGER, WITH COMPASSION FOR OTHERS. So as a happy 1 year anniversary to us buying our new house and the water pipe breaking....
When the plumber fixed the pipe last year he said he shut off the valve so I wouldn't have to worry about it. Well apparently, I should have worried about it, because he didn't shut off the valve and the DAMN PIPE BURST AGAIN! This time during the night so we didn't catch it until about 1,000sq ft of my basement were soaked. The water wasn't deep or anything, but maybe a half inch in the worst area and just a saturated carpet in the rest.
The whole incident sucked, but luckily I got a hold of the best remediation company in the area. 5 days, 23 air movers and 3 industrial humidifiers a bunch of moisture and mold checks later and my basement is good to go. Also luckily, we have very good home insurance.
On top of that...day 3 of the remediation, the wife goes into labor a month early. Luckily, they were able to stop the labor safely and hope that baby girl stays in there for another few weeks at least.
Needless to say it's been quite the week.
At least no major damage in the basement and a wife who is healthy and feeling better...things sure could have been much worse.
Anyway, I have had my main 2-ch system unplugged while all those blowers were here popping breakers, so now I just plugged her back in...jammin to a pink Capricorn pressing of Allman Bros Fillmore and enjoying some Sumatra in my French press.
It's gonna be a good day.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A -
Damn that sucks. Not once, but twice! Didn't the plumber install a freeze proof faucet? You shouldn't need to shut off an inside valve to prevent it from freezing if done right. Just make sure you don't leave a hose attached outside.
-Dave -
The house is only 16 years old, so I don't see how its not freeze-proof to begin with. I'm just going to have them cap it off this time. I don't need the hose-bib out back as it's just the woods anyway.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A
