Getting near the end...

of my latest (and hopefully last, for a long time?) renovation project.
Started about 5 years ago, when I decided I wanted to use the space in my 2+ car garage for a den. It was always
pretty much a repository for some of my equipment, and honestly, a LOT of junk. It never really saw any use as a garage anyway, as the Mrs. never liked the idea of storing vehicles under all 3 bedrooms; we only have a ranch, but the slope of the property allowed for a driveway/garage where the rest of the basement would normally have been. The new space would be about 450 square feet of finished area, complete with a small kitchen/wet bar, full bathroom, and a living room area about 14 x 22. It is in this area that the pool table will reside, as well as finally being able to give a proper home to my 2 channel setup.
Anyway, those 5 years instead saw me finish 3/4 of my basement as a playroom for my kids [added a 3/4 bath as well ], a complete rip-out and remodel of our kitchen, and all new flooring and carpeting in all 3 bedrooms. With the exception of the carpeting, kitchen cabinet installation, and granite counters, I basically did all this work by myself.
So yes, while a lot more time has elapsed than I would have thought possible, I am encouraged by the fact that
there are lots of things people can do if they try; I was an electrician once upon a time, so yeah, I got that part down, but putting up studs, insulation, rock, plumbing, and a drop ceiling were all things I always figured I'd have to pay for. Nope! Probably saved myself a few thousand that way...
So, now here we are 5 years later and I am still not finished, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. No regrets either, as my kids love using "their room" to watch DVDs amd play games, and my wife enjoys time in her spacious new kitchen a lot. I also must give her credit, without her helping out with spackling, sanding, and painting, I would be looking at bare green sheetrock even now! But the pool table is bought and paid for, as is all the carpeting and the heating/cooling system; just waiting for a few more items to happen before delivery will take place. Can't wait!
I'll try to post some pix as things start to get finished.

So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Minus the insulation, it looks the same as the last time I was there."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Congrats! I've done many home improvement projects. It's amazing what you can do with a few "how to" books, the internet and blood, sweat and tears.
