Have an oppertunity for a pair of carver al lll's cosmeticly fine, have listened to them however the gear they were hooked up to was way under powered (so i hear) for them. Would be played thru my "main rig" listed below ( amp has been benched at over 400w at 4ohms plenty of currant. have heard and read about ribon issues being a **** if not right. They seemed ok but without the right power who knows. So are yhey as good as some have said or ..... The cost is really not an issue but if they need to be rebuilt later ....hmmmmmmmmmmm. In knotts over thia one and could really use some input. Thanks in advance.

i came across this that may useful to you:
http://www.theaudiophile.net/threads/24-Review-of-Carver-Amazing-Loudspeaker-III
notice the part about bi-amping? -
i would say you are good for power at a 4ohm rating. according to manual they take 575watts. the manual states they are 8ohm speakers. here is the link, I may be looking at the wrong document:
http://thecarversite.com/manuals/mandir/Carver%20ALS-III%20owner%20manual.PDF
if in fact they are 8 ohm you need to look at what your amp is rated for that impedance.
the manual also states they will operate at a minimum of 65watts.
considering other things....how big is the room you will be placing them in? -
Have these are 4 ohm not eight bit may be diff modles.Main Rig:

If they are not the plus model there is a great write up out there on upgrading the woofers and XO

If they come about i will use the parasound (a little over 400 w@ 4ohms , heavily modded for the top).. Considering a lg pro amp (5/600w) for the woofers.and biamp.should about handle them i would think. Just hope that will open them up.Main Rig:
