Picked up a new receiver a few weeks back (Onkyo TX-NR3010), replaced a Pioneer Elite VSX-56TXi and Adcom GFA7500. Was very hesitant pulling the Adcom out but had to hear any differences. Believe me when I say I put way to much thought into pulling or not pulling it out of the system. So far I have not missed the amp. This Onkyo is quite the power house and is every bit capable of driving my speakers. Not saying that an amp is not in the future wouldn't want to lock myself into some thing
Anyway I have been having a blast watching movies new/old, listening to SACD/DVD-A, tweaking speaker placement. It is truly like the first time. By this I mean the first time I went from an analog receiver to a digital one and heard true 5.1 audio. Hearing True HD audio is ridiculous. I was always able to get a good sense of the HD audio as my Oppo decoded it and was sent to my receiver via multi-channel analog input. Hearing it through HDMI with the latest processors and such, WOW!!! The Onkyo is able to process SACD and DVD-A through HDMI (Now I have an even bigger pile of expensive cables lol) again WOW!!! The details and depth from the fore mentioned formats is awesome. I am hearing things i had not previously heard or were not as present as now. I have had a lot of WOW moments and a lot of smiles as I update and upgrade my system. I remeber each one and the feeling I had, this is way up on the list of moments in time. I have been finding every excuse I can to just sit and enjoy. I am and have been listening to SACD and DVD-A for the last 3 hours as I type.
Ok I am done, just thought I would share with a few hundred people that I don't know and that can appreciate my audio geek. My friends just don't quite get it.
Have a great weekend all. Don't lose your passion for A/V.

Amazing the difference eh?
I have been using the NR808 for a couple of years with a dedicated amp to run my fronts and recently picked up the NR1010 since the upgrade bug bit. The entire sound system with the 1010 will be moved to the HT soon.
Moving up from Audyssey MultiEQ to XT32 was an improvement you can not notice. The added clarity and depth with Dolby TureHD and DTS-MA tracks is stunning. MultiEQ sounded fine, but I always felt something was missing. Lots of tweaking and such didn't help more than a little. I was figuring my amp was the limiting factor. The only thing I changed was the AVR.
I considered the 3010 but saved a little going with the 1010 and keeping my amp in the mix. The 1010 has more than enough juice to run my surrounds (7.2).
The 808 will return to duty in the living room once everything is moved. I did pick up a small Parasound amp to run my "refurbished" 5b's. -
initially i was looking at the 818 and then the 1010 popped into the picture. The price difference was very small and really the features were similar, big difference being the all aluminum face. well while i was looking and reading reviews and such the 3010 stepped in. than i started to look at the pricing and reading and researching and figured if i had my last receiver for 9 years i better not scrimp and really there was not that much of a cost difference between the 1010 and 3010 so i figured i should just go for it and not wonder "what if". when stepping into the 3010 i gained quite a bit, the amp is bigger,a main transformer, additional transformers for audio and video processing, and separated pre-amp and power amp blocks. I'm already not actively looking at amps lolSpeakers:
