Between these two receivers which do you guys think will provide the best sound quality? Or do any of you have experience with any of these receivers? The Denon is available at my local Frys price for 499 and the Yamaha is available for 599 at best buy. Check my sig to see what I will be running.
Really looking for sound quality.
Thanks..

I couldn't comment on the current Yamaha as I have never heard it. Having said that the Yamaha recievers I had in the past were a bit on the bright side and were not a great match for the RTis I was running. I had two Denon recievers (1909 and 2809) and they were a much better match with my RTis. Again I can't say for sure if that's still the case, but in the past the Denons I ownded were warmer sounding and a better match for the RTis.

I haven't heard either one. However the Aventage line is becoming very well respected around here. And is a few models up the chain from the 33xx series Denons. If I had a Fry's near me I would consider the Yamaha for myself thats a great price. Certainly nothing wrong with Denon I bet they both sound fantastic.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

I took my RX-A1000 in to my local shop to listen to it side by side to the 3312. I am increasingly glad that I bought the Yamaha over the Denon.
If this makes sense, the Yamaha just seemed effortless when watching blu-rays and listening to music.
The Denon on the other hand seemed like it was working a lot harder. It seemed to clip at a lot lower volume than the Yamaha as well.
I really liked the Denon before purchasing/listening to the Yamaha. After having the Yamaha for a bit and having had the chance to put it side by side with the Denon, I am most pleased with my decision.
I would jump on that RX-A2000. That price is less than I paid for my RX-A1000."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

This might be a tougher choice than I thought. I"m going to try and see if somehow I can audition both. I currently have a Denon right now but it doesn't have pre outs and I would like something that is much beefier and certainly more powerful. I like the my Denon and I've heard good thing about Yamahas. I don't want something too bright but a receiever that brings movies to life and give me that airy sound (too much to ask for maybe?). I do 75% movies and 25% music. Yamaha sounds very enticing with it being up there in quality but I've heard nothing but good things about Denon and I currently own one.
Tough choice I must admit. Will report sometime this weekend on how it goes, hopefully I have time to check them out.Front- RTI A7,(powered by ADCOM GFA 5500)

I was hoping the Yamaha guy would duck in here. pearsall001's posts were the reason I considered the Aventage line in the first place.
I already had a Yamaha RX-V673. And when I was shopping for the upgrade, wasn't considering the Aventages because they were still Yamahas and the 673 left me seriously wanting.
But after a few of his threads, I began looking at them.
The Aventages are a whole different animals than the other lines of Yamaha which have the reputations of being to bright.
The RX-AXXXX stuff is fantastic. My short list was down to the Denon 3312, Pioneer Elite SC-61 and any Aventage model RX-A1XXX and up. The Pioneer was removed from consideration because of the price of the other 2 options.
But as stated above, after listening to them side by side on the same gear, the Yamaha didn't just sort of come out on top, it leaped ahead of the Denon."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Ok...so I have everything hooked up and i ran the calibration. Although I did like my RTI A7 @large I changed them to small. I've yet to decide if I'll go back. Everything has been set to 80hz with the exception of the L&R mains(60hz).
Initial impressions. Wow! This thing has some power and is significantly better than my last receiver. Now I must admit I am fairly new with the video and audio world. I do know more than the average Joe but I am not a seasoned vet. I just know I love home theater and love the feeling of being in the movie. The Yamaha can push all speakers effortlessly . Sound is clearer and crispier. The detail is amazing from what I've heard so far. I've only heard Dark Knight rises. On that note, the YpAo calibration did an amazing job with the bass in my system. Bass is much deeper and cleaner and I can basically feel it in my chess. The front stage interacts with one another seamlessly. The Yamaha gives me an airy feeling to its sound.
Im going to keep messing with the settings and find the optimal sound. This thing has a lot of option and I need to dig into the manual.
Side note- the fight scene between Batman and Bane, the punches are deep and all the little intricate sounds are so clear it's crazy. I'm amazed! Or maybe I don't know any better, nonetheless thank you all for the recommendations. Will come back when I'm done tweaking and provide update and if anyone cares to chime in on any tips as to how to work this Yamaha to its full potential, I would greatly appreciate it.Front- RTI A7,(powered by ADCOM GFA 5500)

I think that the Yamaha will serve you well for quite a while to come.
And with the pre-outs, you can add an amp/amps later on down the road if you ever feel wanting for MORE POWAH!!!"Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Really happy with my setup right now. Love the sound quality of the Yammie.
I'm already thinking about getting an amp to drive the front stage. Ohhhhh the Rabbit hole. Gotta save the money for it thoughFront- RTI A7,(powered by ADCOM GFA 5500)

You made the right choice. Only the highest model Denons; the ones that weigh at LEAST as much at that Yammie are worth considering. There is no way a 26.8 lbs. 3312 is going to compete, power wise with a 35+ lbs. Yamaha. Plus the Aventage is really a NEW line, and about time too because Yamaha was really starting to slip AVR wise for a while.
Now if you have a 4XXX level Denon. That's another story. Should be able to hold its own, no problem.
Heck, even my AVR 2807 weighs 31 lbs. Denons have been on a diet for a while!
Enjoy!

I also think you made the right choice .I have no experience w/ the newer models but my rx-v665 is now great.I'll be honest at first
when it was in an enclosed rack and not calibrated right the thing would clip at high volume levels. After moving the avr and then
dialing it in I couldn't be happier. Also thankfully w/o even knowing about pre/outs at the time this unit has them and just about
all the inputs one could want. Good luck w/ your new toy, seems like your very into movies so enjoy. That size comparison is pretty

Thanks everyone. I'm really glad I went the Yammie route. I did have a couple question regarding my setup.
1. Do you recommend a Power conditioner (panamax, monster, APC, etc.)? I do have a surge protector but not like the ones i've seen on here.
2.Is my Yammie ok where I currently have it? Should I position it somewhere else?

2. Should be just fine where it is.
Congrats on the new setup! -
