Trying to decide on a receiver to go with my Polk RTi8's

Hi, thanks for reading. I'm looking for a new receiver for around $400. I tried the Onkyo HT-RC430 and I hated the sound, I didn't think it was any better than the Vizio's TV speakers. So here are the ones I'm currently considering. I would love to hear opinions on each, or if there are any other suggestions feel free! I know sound is subjective, but I'd still appreciate opinions. If anyone has any reliability issues with any listed would love to hear about that, too. If you have questions for me, ask away. It's too cold for me to go outside today so I'll be here all day!! I really appreciate it!!

I'd highly recommend getting a receiver with preouts now so if you upgrade speakers later on you won't have to buy a new one, you'll be glad you did in the long run. If you don't mind a refurb you can get an Onkyo 709 for $429 http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXNR709/Onkyo-TX-NR709-7.2-Channel-3-D-Ready-Network-A/V-Receiver/1.html

I have no knowledge of what the heck preouts are
-
Pre-Out is an unprocessed line level output (not amplified by the receiver any). They allow you to hook up a dedicated amp to drive your speakers. While a receiver puts out audio it can never equal what a dedicated amp can do for you when you have speakers rated at 300-500 watts. Speakers with higher wattage needs really come alive when given the proper power.---

so it's one connection that the receiver has?

Yes it's on the back via rca outputs, there will always be a preout for the subwoofer but you want one that has one for all 5 or 7 speakers. Your 8's aren't hard to drive (i owned them for a year or so) but definitely can sound best with an amp or a higher end avr.

Excellent, thanks for explaining that

No prob, like I said I really think that Onkyo 709 is by far your best bet in that price range. Audyssey is great, it has preouts and enough power to handle your Rti8's as is. It's just a good idea to have em in case later on you wanted to try the Rti 10's or 12's, the Lsi series or any other harder to drive speaker.

I like Pioneer's sound better than the other brands mentioned, of the three, I'd go with a Denon. I'd try this one out first, it's in your price range.

I'm also a huge Pioneer fan and used the VSX1120k to power my old Rti8's. I actually prefer them to Onkyo but didn't think the 1122 doesn't have preouts for future upgrades.

FWIW, the OP never mentioned any desire for pre outs.
-
True and i'm not trying to force an AVR on him but I made the same mistake with a few receivers and never thinking i'd upgrade from my Rti8's, so thought i'd save him some time and money

Any advice is good advice as far as I'm concerned, since I don't know a lot of the technical aspects!! -

Well until you do know a lot of them (I really don't either) , I'd suggest staying with a single, purpose-built component. I've never understood why people buy an AVR instead of a pre/processor if they intend to utilize separate amps.
This is a good example of what CAN go wrong :
