Same thing as a stereo reciever. NOT an AVR ( audio video reciever ). Most common recievers now are for home entertainment centers for surround sound processing which will be more than two channel and have video connections.

Will power ONE pair of speakers. Sometimes two, but you will have less power going to each speaker -
A sign of the times I suppose.......sigh.Political Correctness'.........defined
"A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a t-u-r-d by the clean end."

Just like someone asking what to do with a mechanical watch when it stops. Wind it!"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson

This is a two-channel audio receiver :-)
It is only a "receiver" if it has an FM (or AM/FM) tuner section in it as well as preamp/switching and a power amplifier all in one compact package (OK, the Baroque Marantz 2600 above isn't exactly compact...).
