Same thing as a stereo reciever. NOT an AVR ( audio video reciever ). Most common recievers now are for home entertainment centers for surround sound processing which will be more than two channel and have video connections.

What is a two channel audio receiver?

Will power ONE pair of speakers. Sometimes two, but you will have less power going to each speaker

Just like someone asking what to do with a mechanical watch when it stops. Wind it!

    DAC: Arcam irDac
    Source: iMac
    Remote Control: iPad Mini

    3.2 Home Theater Setup:

    Center: Klipsch RP-160M
    Subwoofer: SVS PB12NSD (X 2)
    AVR: Yamaha Aventage RX-A2030
    Blu Ray: Sony BDP-S790
    TV Source: DirecTV Genie

    This is a two-channel audio receiver :-)

It is only a "receiver" if it has an FM (or AM/FM) tuner section in it as well as preamp/switching and a power amplifier all in one compact package (OK, the Baroque Marantz 2600 above isn't exactly compact...).
