5.0 speakers settings on 7.1 AVR (Harman Kadon AVR 2600) problem, maybe HDMI issue?

hello all:
I bought my polk system a while ago and I bought Harman Kardon 2600 as my AVR, this is 7.1 but I have only 5 speakers (M40X2, M70X2, CS10),
I connected my computer to AVR 2600 through a HDMI, and from 2600 "HDMI out" a HDMI line was connected to my old Toshiba TV.
I hooked up the AVR with the speakers in such a way that, two M40 as the mains and two M70s as Sub L&R. Now I found only two M40s work, the Central and M70,
just remain quiet. When I test the speaker using either the Windows sound setting or the sound test from the AVR, all 5 speakers worked.
I read some articles, it seemed that the HDML to the TV might not be able to carry more than 2 channels of audio, is that so? and people suggested using
component or composite cabel instead (http://www.avsforum.com/t/1396830/audio-return-channel-arc-only-passes-2-channel-lpcm-stereo-from-tv-to-avr).
I hope I've made myself clear, any helps out there?
Thanks a lot!
John

Not familiar with this AVR, but have you tried hooking computer to AVR using USB connection instead of HDMI?

thanks, but I didn't see USB port on the AVR.

Picture on Harmon web site shows it behind the cover, lower right corner, where analog port is at.

thank you, I'll take a look
