Meniscus Audio Extra Points question

For those of you out there using the Meniscus Audio Extra Points from the group buy, are you concerned that the spikes are not super pointy? Do you think that because they dont pierce the carpet they are not doing a good job of coupling the speakers to the floor?

I am just curious as I read a couple people had mentioned that and wanted to discuss it.

I have used these on my LSi 15's instead of the stock Polk ones which I still have and could switch back no problem. Those are VERY pointy and will pierce the carpet no problem, but by no means are they as nice as the Meniscus ones.

Wanted to get thoughts before I use my extra set of the Extra Points on the new RTA 11TL's I just got or if I should go with the extra LSi ones I have.

If your speakers are on carpet and the spikes are not piercing the carpet, they are not doing their job. Those Meniscus spikes were never meant to be used on carpet.

    Hmm, first I heard that.

With carpet over concrete does it matter v. carpet over subfloor?

If the spikes aren't making contact with the solid floor, whatever it may be, they aren't doing what spikes are designed for.

Agreed. I went from my brass and granite (1.5") brass spikes to the Meniscus and the Meniscus did not pierce the carpet. The audio became muddy sounding and lost detail and definition, especially in the lower midrange and bass. I switched back and the audio was better, except that the 1.5" spikes are too tall. I need to buys shorter spikes or a taller couch.

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

I'm using those meniscus spikes under my 2.3TL's which are sitting on heavy wool carpet. They replaced the stock "bolts", and produced a significant improvement. Haven't tried the pointed ones - perhaps they would be even better.

Although the Meniscus Extra Points work great for my speakers, which sit directly on a tile floor layed over concrete, I'd use something else if my speakers were on carpet. I don't care for the shiny feet with the adjustable ends on them that a lot of people sell, I'd rather use the cheepo Daytons that are flat black. If I had some money to burn, I'd be looking at the ones from Mapleshade.
