Recently shipped an amp via UPS to Canada to someone not related to this forum. Amp was bubble wrapped and taped on all sides and corners, then placed in a tight fitting box and sent off. The picture below are ones he just send me, and customs felt the need to open the box, and "repack" the amp after inspection. As you may guess, the amp arrived with damage to the fins on both sides, a broken fuse holder, and he'll be opening it up today to check the electronics. Poorly packing something is one issue, but there is no defense for customs sticking their fingers in your package...

thats pretty messed up, i had a package sent here, that UPS neglected to ship home on time, so it had to be re-routed, customs went through it, and decided to wrap up a used shoe polishing brush in my dress whites, which were peviously sealed in a plastic bag, needless to say i will get to shell out the money for ne pants and top, tailoring fees, and they will continue to not car and have an"IDGAF" attitude with other peoples valuables,2 Channel(work in progress):DAC: Schiit modi 2 uberAmp:Parasound 1200 MK IISub:RBH 1010-SEP Speakers: Monitor 5A peerlesscurrently running some krk rokit 3g since the HK pre outs died and i need to start breaking everything down to move in a couple monthsHeadphones:Source: tidalDAC: schiit modius epre: schiit sysAmp: AQ dragonfly black/ schiit magni2 Cans: Velodyne V-True, Grado SR225i, sennheiser x drop gaming headsetPC:DAC: schiit modius e(over spdif)pre: schiit sysspeakers: prenous eris 5 xtSub: Earthquake Sound MiniMe-P63most of my comments are passing on of info, im a noob, im just trying to help how i can, if im wrong or out of place to comment, dont hesitate to let me know "WITH WILLING HEARTS AND SKILLFUL HANDS, THE DIFFICULT WE DO AT ONCE, THE IMPOSSIBLE TAKES A BIT LONGER, WITH COMPASSION FOR OTHERS. Even if you take out insurance from the carrier, clearly that was not the fault of the carrier, and good luck getting money out of customs. Luckily the amp wasn't expensive, but that's not the point...

Should have blacked out the names and addresses in that first pic.My humble setup...
...is no more. -
There are so many horror stories with Canuck's customs. And they treat locals as bad.
Perhaps they need to get a life.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -

Jake, I have to tell ya that shipping an amp, speakers or whatever with bubble wrap and peanuts is simply rolling the dice regardless if Customs hadn't effed up your packing job. Basic rules for shipping if you don't have the original box and often times even if you do, use a box with thick walls (unlike yours) and use 2 inches of the pink or blue foam insulation sheets from Lowes or Home Depot on all sides, top and bottom. Even better, use a double box.
Also, never ship anything to or from Canada via UPS. They will charge a broker's fee to the receiving party, which can get pretty expensive. FedEx does not.Political Correctness'.........defined

Never had problems before, but apparently I had been lucky rolling the dice. Advice taken on the packing without original box and UPS. Thanks.

yes I 100% agree I have done this with heavy sensitive gear shipping from Illinois to Roland @hitech audio never a problem. Even pro dice shooters come up snake eyes once in a while but customs gave you loaded dice.
that is bad .

Using spray insulation foam that swells and conforms to fill voids is excellent.
needless to say, shrink wrapping first is a must.
