Just starting to setup my 5.1 system I was worried that my rear bookshelf speakers might have been mounted a bit too high should I move them down about a foot from the back of the couch?

I am new to home theater and any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and the sub will be moved once I order a longer cable lol

What do you guys think?

Personally I like mine at ear level when sitting.

I like mine 24"-36" above ear level depending on speakers and room. At ear level if someone is sitting on either side of you they'll be blocking the speakers sound.

Simple, put them where they sound good to you.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

I think they might be a bit too high I am going to try and move them down about half a foot I find sitting just in front of the speakers the audio goes over my head and I don't get a clear path of audio.

Totally depends on the speakers and the room. What are you using and what are the room dimensions? Some are designed to work best in different arrangements...

2.1 living room - NAD 7400 integrated, 2 x Platinum Audio Duos, MIT Terminator4 cables
    2.1 bedroom- Arcam Solo, 2 x Mirage OMD-5's
FOR SALE - Genesis Servo-10 sub, Genesis Servo-12 amp; Martin Logan Dynamo sub; Mirage MM-6 sub; Harman Kardon DPR-1001 7.1 receiver

When sitting on the end of the couch the speakers are about a foot above ear level I think it might just be the best spot for them since my couch setup is right up against the back wall where the speakers are mounted it allows the surround to be heard from the corners of the couch and also those who sit in the middle.
