Back from the dead (my SDA 1C's)

After a few days and alot of help from you all my SDA 1C's are up and running! I was able to repair the drivers, and while I had the jb weld out I went ahead and gave all 8 drivers the epoxy treatment. All I can say is WOW, these sound amazing even with my little Kenwood KA 7100 and a horrible room placement. I will get my mess cleaned up tonight and get a few photos. I understand posts like this are worthless without photos. After reading the SDA hand book I have big plans for these speakers. I see many more upgrades and mods as the year passes.

A questions if you all dont mind:
I have been reading that the SDA 1C's really come to life using an amp with 200 Watts per channel. A Carver TFM-25 has recently come avaliable and I was wondering how well that would pair with my SDA's. I would use my Marantz 2226 as a preamp.

Again, Thank you!

Congrats on your resurrection, what did you do to the drivers ?

I had a TFM-25 on my 1Cs at one one time and sounded great compared to my Denon AVR.

    They are a good match.

BTW, its not the WPC but the current and the TFM amps have plenty.

I also had a TFM-45 and wished I still had it but there are several amps I feel that way about.

    Good luck.

I apologize for the poor photos. My phone takes poor low light condition photos.

    Bored,
Besides the JB Weld treatment, what did you do to the pair? What did it take to bring them back from the dead?

Very nice! Once space permits, I do plan on getting another pair of SDA's. There is nothing quite like them.

    Nice set.
Is which model pioneer turntable is that, I have a PL 510a.

I'd worry about space later if you see a nice set local and a good price you better get them.

They day after I bought them I realized I had three frozen drivers 2 MW6510's and 1 MW6511. With some help from the folks here and on another forum I was able to succesfully realign the magnets in the drivers.

Its a Pioneer PL-115D. It was my first turntable I bought while in college. It works greats but could you some new veneer. By the way college was only about 6 years ago for me.

Pics don't show the interconnect in place from what I can tell. Did you get one and have you tested it?
Currently their is no interconnect cable connected in their new configuration. I have them about three feet from each each corner and maybe five feet apart. I was able to test the SDA drivers when they were closer together using the prong on a short set of RCA cables. Tonight I plan on testing them in this new configuration and I will also be making a new interconnect cable.

If/when you get IC cable and few chosen songs, SDA effect will bring more WOW than now.
You are only playing half of the drivers without IC cable.

I realized I never really introduced myself to the forum. My first post was one out of "oh crud now what" instead of "hello".
My introduction to Polk: I first fell in love with Polks after I ran across a set of Monitor 4A's at one of my favorite thrift stores. In my research I ran across the Polksda website and fell in love with the Polk SDA's. Thanks to Craigslist I was able to piece a HT setup consisting of two Polk RT600i's as my fronts, a CS245i as my center and two RT15i as my rears. I now have my SDA's and can not be happier. My living room looks like a Polk Audio show room.

Me: I recently graduated from Ball State (Indiana) where I dual majored in Chemistry and Chemistry Education. I am now a first year educator at an Air Force JROTC school where I teach Chemistry and Earth Science. My wife and I have a little girl who will be turning 1 the 23rd of this month. She loves when I turn the stereo on because she will start dancing to the music.

SDA update: I was able to pick up a Carver TFM-25 to run the SDA-1c's, as my pre amp I am using my Marantz 2226. Speakers are as close to be setup correctly as my room would allow and the interconnect cable has been made. Everything was setup last night and once the wife leaves and I make sure the neighbor is out I will be able to take it for a test run.

I ran my SDA-2B's with a Marantz 2245 and Carver TFM-45 at one point. I never thought they mated well. I preferred the sound of the 2245 on it's own, their was just better synergy that way. I would recommend ditching your 2226 and finding a quality preamp.

BTW, I have no doubt that it sounds good as is, but I would pay to see the smile on your face once you integrate a solid preamp with those speakers.
