It may be blasphemy on this forum to mention, but CNET gave the latest Pioneer home theater combo great reviews (SP-PK22BS and SP-PK52FS). I would be very interested to hear from anyone on this forum who could compare these systems to the current Polk gear...

Not blasphemy at all. My favorite local high end shop carries them and the EX series Pioneers. And while the EX series are stupid expensive, for the price, Pioneer's entry level speakers sound fantastic.

Andrew Jones designed some pretty good speakers for the money.

Thanks , but is the Polk Audio PSW Series PSW505 subwoofer 2 strong for these kinda speaker or no ? that's really my big concern because most people use these speaker with the polk 10" subwoofer or other small ones.

The 505 is a good match for either the Pioneer set or the Polk new Monitors. It won't overpower them.

Although, your AVR budget is going to hamstring you a bit. In that price range, you are going to run into a lot of underpowered options.

Instead of the 55t, you could probably do the 45b and you would be right at your $400. Plus 45b's might be easier on a budget receiver. You would need a shelf or stand to set them on, however.

If you're in a city, I'd strongly recommend setting up a craigslist RSS feed to watch for appropriate systems. As people upgrade their setups, you can potentially get a phenomonal 5.1 system lightly used for what you'd otherwise spend on a mediocre new system.

I've picked up almost new 5-speaker systems from Mirage and Focal for 80+% off retail... and I've seen tons more that I didn't even call about because of lack of space, systems from Martin Logan, Klipsch, Gallo, and others...

The difference between $3K speakers and $500 speakers is pretty clear on listening.

If you're going for a new system, I've seen amazing deals on some of the Jamo 5.0 setups... five real speakers in the $200 range shipped to the door. That gives you $200 to go looking for a decent sub.

Other consideration would be how large your room is and what size speakers are optimal... do you need tiny wall-mount speakers or do you have room for something a little larger... it's a general rule you can have any two: size, price, quality.

i have no clue, never owned or used any of them, i heard the 50's and 30's before, they sounded good, 35b is the new version and i believe the 15c is the new version of the CS1, 45b newer version of monitor 40, from what i have been told, its more of a cosmetic upgrade, i would think that the newer ones should b at least a little improved over the old, but such is the case with polk, that that isnt always true, like the 505 being replaced by the 125,

If your trying to go all Polk the PSW505 is a good price for Sub300 range. As far as speaker wire goes, anything in the 12-14 gauge copper wire will do(check monoprice.com). If you want something with better build quality you can go with Blue Jeans Cable but either or will be just fine. Good luck

    Center- CSI5,
Surrounds- RTI 6 and Rear Surrounds- TS 15.

you're in Brooklyn! So many amazing options... I have RSS feeds set up watching for lots of different audio equipment for cities within a reasonable drive of DC... NY's not worth going up to just for audio, but we're up there twice a year or so to visit friends/family, so keeping an eye on the gear may time out one of these trips.

It's probably good you don't use CL -- if it were me in Brooklyn, I'd likely have more audio equipment than I had room to hook up. NY is a great city for picking up mid/high-end audio equipment.

Regardless, good luck with your search. As far as online sites, Accessories4Less.com and Vanns.com often both have good discounts and options that would be great values within your budget.
