I used to own a pair of JBL L1 Loudspeakers, they were small but packed a lot of sharp bass, does anybody knows them?, If you do, which speakers will be a closed match to them nowdays?

Thanks

    Welcome to Club Polk!

The L1 was a TOTL bookie quite a while back. A kind of upscale version of a JBL Pro Monitor (can't remember the model but the home version was the JBL L20t and L20t3).

The modern equivalent might be something like the Pro Monitor LSR6328P; although this is a two way 8" configuration, with a carbon fiber woofer and a carbon/titanium composite tweeter which should not be too far from the original titanium dome in your L1s. But I'm not sure how a studio monitor would work in a non-studio room. Both series and your Ls were "tweaked" for the HOME environment.

I'll see if I can dig up something more.

    Yours should look like these:

The only current offering from JBL HOME is the JBL Studio L830, but as they retail for 650 a pair, I DOUBT these are as GOOD as your older L1s!

I am presently fixing up a pair of JBL 62T. The bass is tight and punchy. Hopefully, the replacement tweeter will come in this week.

By the way, the photo was from an Ebay listing and not mine.

Thanks everybody, do you think (in your opinion) that it will be safe to buy them used? Which are my risks?

The only problem buying used might be the "tweeter". As I understand it, and I have a similar tweeter in my L80ts, this titanium dome has some kind of foam wafer behind it that might "degrade" and fail in time, rendering the tweeters unusable and irreparable.

However, there are "replacement" tweeters that are pretty much exact specs for the original available. So if you're willing to take a chance of getting a bad set of tweeters and are willing to invest more money buying replacements (probably in the 100 dollar range +/- for two). Then, why not?

Fingers crossed. Mine are still operational!

I have a pair of L1's. They are spectacular and do have a punchy bass as you remember. Sold for $700/pr in '92. They are worth buying used.
I'm looking for a replacement 706G-1 mid/bass driver, because an old amp I just bought fried on of the voice coils. Bummer!

Not sure about that model...but I do have a pair of 120TI's that I fire up from time to time. Almost got rid of these too..glad I didn't! Still punchy after all this time. Believe I got em in 77 or so...can't be sure, still like em though!

I also think L20t is pretty much similar but L1 is rear ported so it needs some space on the back while L20t can be placed against the wall.
Also, L1 may be brighter to some than L20t.
Given a choice, L20t would be the one but they both are old models.

Not sure what new equivalent is.
    May be HLS610.
