Couple of rants.......

1) Wash your hands, multiple times a day during this "flu" season.
And I don't mean "quick", I mean take your time, hot water.
Think there are people cleaning those gas pumps, Pepsi/Coke coolers?
Don't you know we can extend the list of stuff you touch everyday in public.

2) Trust me on the first one, I have felt like I have been on my deathbed the last few days (flu).
If my sister was not an RN and I trusted her with my care, I would have probably went to the ER by now.
I have not turned my TV on in 2 days (bed pretty much).
Evidently she has some experience (feel better after 3 days), about 25 years as an RN:lol:.
You want ZERO part of it, trust me!

    Ditto.

I spent the better part o three weeks in bed before Christmas.

You don't want any part of this "stuff" that's going around. I haven't had anything like it since I had the Hong Kong flu in December of 1968.

    Keep healthy.

Hey Pep: screw #1. Dont wash, use hand sanitizer instead.

I use it 24/7 at work since I have to touch lots of keyboards and computer at work covered in dust and who knows what else...

Some of the keyboards I see have enough crumbs to assemble an entire loaf of bread......

    True,
I have not made it to the Livingroom in about 2 days (bed).
No eat, but alot of "removal" just to be nice!

I can only imagine people like Cody and Dan that handle ALOT of cash and coins everyday.

It is unreal if you think of all the things you touch in public!
Think anyone ever cleans a Pepsi/Coke cooler?
    Wally World frozen isle handles?
    Nope!
Hundreds of people putting their germs on them everyday, all day long!
    Just to name a few.

I was commenting to Moose, but a keyboard is another example Dan!

Simple/Free........wash your freakin hands multiple times a day, and consciously think about it during the day.

    SUPER CHEAP INSURANCE!

I am still not 100% but at least after a couple of days in bed, I feel good enough to turn the TV on!

Temp getting closer to 98 degrees I guess!

    Not the same for everyone.
Long story short, closest I have ever been to death was when a doctor gave me a flu shot when I was really dehydrated and did not know it (and he didn't either).

One of the worst places to catch the flu.....shopping carts, the handles. Whenever you go to Costco, grocery store, Walmart, all those cart handles that people are touching is like a germ gymnasium. Bring along some wipes and give the handles a once over.

Whenever possible, when you must touch a door handle/latch, grab and open the left door in a double-door entry. Most people are right handed and thus reach for the door on the right. Same would be true when leaving double doors that open-out - push the door on the right. Don't ask me to site the study to prove this - just a tip my grandmother passed-on to us. And yes, I am a germ-o-phobe.

When I was younger watching my mother wash her hands, she would always turn the hot water off with her elbow or a paper towel.
She was a D.O.N (Director of Nursing), and took her training home with her I guess.
I still think about that when I wash my hands to this day!

Myself I do get the flu shot and carry hand sanitizer in my car and if I had a Man Purse I would carry some there. I believe Meijer Markets here in Michigan does a quick swipe of the handles on the shopping carts and they have the hand sanitizer located here and their.

I have never had a flu shot. Don't recall ever getting the flu. Guess I'm lucky in that regard. In the military, we got a ton of shots for everything. Plague I, Plague II, Anthrax, and a host of other crap. Also had to take Malaria pills before deploying to the Phillippeans. Not sure if it is related, but all I really ever get are sinus infections (those suck bad enough). Get better man!

Same here, never had a flu shot...never will. I work hard on being healthy and building up my immune system. A guy at work was pretty sick a few days ago, so I did an experiment....I shook his hand and gave him a bear hug....I still feel great and no sign of impending sickness. My boss thought that was pretty cocky of me, but I was 100% sure I wasn't going to get sick.

A genius, you are! Good luck to you and your tough immune system.

27 deaths in our state this year from the flu, SO FAR! Included in this number is one 15 year old girl athlete, otherwise she was very healthy. It took her quickly too.

The best defense against this (above epidemic levels in 47 states) is still getting the flu shot. The virus goes airborn every time someone carrying it coughs, sneezes or even breathes. Along with the shot, as noted by pepster, you should wash your hands several times a day. AND try to keep your hands away from your nose, mouth and eyes - portals of entry for the flu virus.

NO, it's not too late to get your flu shot for this flu season which typically peaks in mid February.

There is plenty of info on the wonderful and destructive side effects of these flu shots. I think it causes more problems than it solves. The best defense is taking care of AND maintaining your health....imho.

Take as many precautions as you can. But if you work with "people" you WILL slip up sooner or later! There are just too many surfaces, places and individuals to contend with. So do the best you can but don't think you'll escape.

I've taken the flu shot the last two or three years. NO side effects whatsoever. In fact, I didn't even feel the shot? Now the BAD news. This year's strain has already mutated so that your shot will provide only minimal protection. You still might get the flu but it may be in a milder and shorter form if you are LUCKY!

Better to FOCUS on YOUR IMMUNE system.

Get plenty of SLEEP. REDUCE STRESS.

Drink plenty of fluids, STAY HYDRATED.

    Exercise in moderation.

And EAT WELL. Make sure most of what you're eating are veggies and fruits and vegetables filled with nutrients and anti-oxidants, etc.

One of the reasons we get so "tagged" this time of year is, well, we're on that slope up in weight and bad diet from T-Giving, to X-mas, to NY's Eve!

Too much fat and sugar and too much alcohol! Bye, bye immune system!

Hope you get better soon pepster!

The people really at risk from dying from the flu are the very young and the very old... I used to didn't bother getting a flu shot because I was against them on principal. But this year - yeah i got one early.

If you get the flu stay hydrated and watch out for pneumonia, the only thing about the flu that kills folks is dehydration and/or pneumonia.

For me its like this, I have read the flu shot is only 60% effective. So if I get the shot I am 60% protected, 60% less likely to pass the virus on to my wife or my three small children, or anyone else for that matter. You say you don't like the side effects you might get ill. Okay you might, You also might help save someone else's life you are not just getting the flu shot for you your getting it to help protect everyone else, the most vulnerable the children and the elderly. Getting the flu shot will help slow the spread of this virus, help save other people from getting sick. You guys quoting the death count in your state, wouldn't it be lower if we were all 60% protected. Bottom Line THE FLU SHOT SAVES LIVES!!. And I have never heard of anyone ever die from the flu shot only the flu. I my wife my two 3yo's and my 6 month old have all got the flu shot with no side effects, I will not roll the dice on my families safety. If one of them would still get the flu at least I did what I could to protect them. The flu is serious and we need to be responsible.

Nope I too am in the "not getting one camp". I got one for 3yrs in a row(my job gives them for free) and those 3yrs I was in the emergency room on my death bed with THE FLU. I never get sick hadn't been sick in 20yrs my wife hates that everyone but me gets sick in our family.

The flu shot doesn't mean you won't get the flu. The CDC has to predict and choose only 3-5 strains out of 250 that might be a problem on the upcomming flu season. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes not. For me anyway, with all the junk they put in it, I'll pass. Mercury, famaldahyde, no thanks. Even though the cdc claims of small amounts of this junk in the flu shots is safe for the majority of people, they stop short of saying it's safe for all the people. Given what that junk can do to you, I'll take my chances with the flu. Especially since over 70% of those who die from the flu are seniors or others who have a compromised immune system already, or some other underlying cause. I have a few years left before I hit that senior citizen status anyway.
