Adcom GFA 555 price a little steep?

Ok this is what iv'e been looking for, and one thats available close by (35 minute drive). I would use my GFA-545II to power a pair of CRS+s and use this to power my 2B's. I have an extra adcom preamp so after my SDA upgrades my quest would come to an end. I have been looking for a GFA-555 for a long time and here it is close by, however I feel the asking price is a little steep if so what would be considered a fair offer before I contact this person?

    $300-$350 seems more realistic.

    He's asking 500 and might take 375, you never know unless you ask. Some people start out really high on Craigslist and are willing to sell for much less. Personally I am not much of a haggler, but some people get into it.

    This IS pretty much the range. 500 is "absurd"! Unless this guy has had a complete recap and refurb of "everything" inside?

    I paid $250.00 BIN on Ebay w $20.00 shipping. I am very happy w purchase. It did come from a smoking household though? Seems very clean. So talk him down to 350 or at least try? Good luck. D

    Honestly,the age of it being a GFA 555, if the amp has never been recapped, I'd only offer him at the most $300.00, but that's just my 2 cents. The ad doesn't offer much info...

    That is a bit steep. I pay 450 for my 585 and had all paper work of a recent re-cap work.

    350.00 tops in VGC. The first Pass design seems to be going for a bit more lately, but 500.00 is delusional.

    U can buy much beter amps for 500.00 easily. Too me 300.00 is ALL the money for one of those.just in mho.

    Well I contacted him, he responded promptly, says he has had it 10 years, it has not been recapped, is in good shape and he would bend a little so at least he is willing to negotiate. He also says he has a Conrad Johnson-MF 80 he is getting ready to sell never heard of CJ are they any good? I'am going to offer him $325 and see where it leads.Thanks for the responses people as always much appreciated. Hey cnh if he shoots me down you could always sell me yours when you do your spring cleaning:lol:

    The CJ should be a better amplifier but, its 80 watts. It depends on how efficient your speakers are to drive and personal taste. How much is he asking for the CJ? The adcom is a good neutral sounding amp. CJ tends to be on the warmer lush side of things.

    I paid $300 w/ shipping thrown in from Audio Classics. $500 is way to high ,just show him the 100s that are out there on E-Bay and
    more than likely he will have to come down in price or he'll have to get some one who is just nutty over his amp.
