Anyone see issues with putting the AVR, dvd player, etc. in the back of the room for my HT and running speaker wire through drop ceiling to the front? I will be using a projector which will be around the middle of the 25' deep room so I think the hdmi run would be about the same either way. I am looking at monoprice 12g in wire for speaker cable.

Thanks all,
Paul

The only thing I would be concerned with is IR remote signals working. Sometimes the screen has enough reflection to bounce them back, but if the equipment has objects in the way, it might not work. For instance, my ceiling mounted projector always picks up the signal if I am aiming towards the screen (my equipment is all below the screen). Of course, this would all be moot if you are using an RF remote setup with IR transmitters.

Personally, I like to be able to see my equipment displays if/when things start acting funny.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I would just have to point it to the back of the room, which definitely would be innoying, but do-able. My goal is to keep all the gear on a higher counter in the back of the room, leaving only the front three speakers up front. This area is a multi use and my two young children will be playing down there alot.

I moved all of my gear into another room and use an IR transmitter without any problems. I reran all my speaker wire and used the cable your talking about also. It doesnt bother me not being able to see the gear or that its not right in front of me. It all has on-screen displays so your not really in the dark about anything.

That's the way my HT was setup in my previous house. I actually liked not having the lights from the components in the front of the room as it can be a little distracting. I found two negatives: 1) the remote issue that was mentioned and 2) access to my components. The remote issue didn't really bother me, but my wife didn't like it. As far as access, my equipment was in a rack behind my theater seats. Tough to get to to hook things up, diagnose a problem, etc. Also had to go between the chairs to insert a DVD.

If I could set it up ideally with an IR remote and plenty of room, I'd choose to have my equipment in the back.

On another note, got the Karma DVD yesterday. I got about 5 minutes in and my daughter came in asking if I could help her study for a test. Maybe this weeked.

Get a remote with an RF/IR repeater and it's no longer an issue. I'd get a remote with an RF/IR repeater regardless, just because it's so much better than one without it.
