Surround sound in a big room

Hello!
I am just completing a "media" room as part of a larger great room in the basement. I have the new KEF Q series speakers (Q700, Q600, Q800) as well as an Anthem MRX receiver.
Anyway, I plan on setting up a 5.1 system on one end of a room that is about 35 feet long and 18 feet wide. The seating area is about 15 or so feet from the wall with a screen, which leaves 20 feet behind the seating area.
The questions I have are:
(1) Is it a problem with the bi/di-pole speakers to place them adjacent to the seating area which leaves the total distance between front and back walls a bit imbalanced (15 feet to the front and 20 feet to the back)?
(2) If I wanted to go 7.1, do I put the direct radiating speakers for the rears on the back wall (20 feet from the listening position), or should I get them closer somehow?
It's not a dedicated theater room like some of you guys have, but rather a comfortable area for music, video games, TV, and movies.
Thanks for any input you may have!

You never want your speakers against the wall so put them out about 10 foot and all that space will be surely awesome for a full sound. The MRX signature with the KEF sounds like a winner especially with a 7.1 setup in a vast space

Thanks. . . By the way, I love the MRX you sold me! ARC is amazing.
