denon or yamaha for monitor series setup?

I recently purchased monitor 70 fronts, monitor 40 bookshelf's, and a cs2 center speaker. Haven't gotten a sub yet due to living in a apartment. I went to fry's electronics with every intention of buying a denon 1913 receiver and the salesman sold me on the Yamaha 673. He said it would sound and work much better for Polk speakers. My Yamaha receiver is now acting up. The video is cutting out for a second or so every few hours. I love the receiver other then that.
Should I exchange it for another Yamaha 673 or go with the denon 1913? Is it true yamaha's sound better with polk speakers?

If you look at my signature below, you will see we have very similar set-ups with the same AVR.
From personal experience, the 673 was a mistake. I have since purchased an RX-A1000 and a pair of amps. Was going to do an Elite SC-61 but that deal fell through.
The 673, to me, is a compromise between the better processing with the lower grade amp section."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Should I go with a a720 from yamaha? or stay away from yamaha and go denon with a 1913 or 2113? Is a 2113 even necessary if i'm only running 5.1 for now? -
not sure if I want to fork out the 800+ for a Elite SC-61

I would listen to both of them, using the monitors, if possiblee, and let your ears decide. Both Yamaha and Denon make quality products.
It never hurts to have extra system capabilities, weather software or hardware. You can use 5.1 on a 7.1 reciever, but 7.1 may not be possible on a 5.1 reciever. That's a price consideration though. -
Honestly, I was underwhelmed listening to the Denons locally. But the shop I frequent has similar sized listening rooms to my living room. The Yamaha Aventage line (The 720 is a member) is a HUGE step up from RV-X AVRs.
I think you would be very pleased with the 720 if you mostly like the 673."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Yamaha aventage line is real nice step up from the rx-v line A720 very nice if you dont need preouts. I would think it would be better than the mentioned denons.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

Welcome to Club Polk!
A good strong Denon amp sounds great with Polk's Monitor and Rti-A lines! But for M-70s you might want some pre-outs. A Denon with pre-outs and some nice external amplification will make those M-70s sing songs that powering with an AVR alone won't!
That said. I would not get "any" NEW Yamaha that was not at least an Aventage series. The lower models just don't have the same sound quality!
So either a higher model Denon with pre-outs, or the Aventage Yamaha should do you!
