Rear speaker placement?

I apologize in advance for such a newbie question but my home theater hasn't changed since the early 90's. I've finally decided to upgrade everything and I'm finding that old is now all new to me.

Okay, our listening/viewing room measures approximately 15 feet wide x 20 feet long. The front 15 foot wall is where the fronts, center, sub and Tv sits. Our main seating position is about halfway back along the 20 foot length span, say 10 to 12 feet or so from the television. The problem is with the rears in our 5.1 channel setup. My only option is mounting them on the back 15' wide wall where they'll be somewhere around 8 feet behind us, approximately 6 feet off the floor. Stands behind us aren't an option, the wall is it.

My guess is that when we're seated we're in the middle of the 15 foot span so where should I mount the rears? Currently they're in the corners of the walls angled in and down towards our seating position. From what I'm reading now though that's not correct, they should be indexed in and firing directly forwards? That would put their sound about 3 feet above our heads and firing directly towards the front wall instead of towards where we sit. Is that correct?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!
