Advent 2002 and The Ones that Got Away

Cleaning out stuff and dropping off donations, I couldn't help but going in to the local GW. Some folks must have gotten new toys for Christmas 'cause there were a bunch of speakers there.
There was a pair of Cerwin Vega D-3 that were tempting. The cabinets were dirty but in good condition as were the grills. But I knew I'd catch HE-double-toothpick if I brought them home. A quick check on the iPhone and I saw that they are great for ear-splitting rocking out but not much on SQ. Not what I'm looking for.
A couple days later I stopped in again. There in front were a pair of Infinity RS-3 towers for $30. Nice! I knew I was in trouble. I tried to be good an checked to see what else they had. A nice little pair of Advents which would be much easier to sneak into the house. But those Infinities were calling. I rushed back to them only to find a gentleman loading them into his cart. I kicked myself and thanked him for keeping me out of trouble and went back and grabbed the Advents.
So I pick up a nice pair of Advent 2002 with good cabinets and grills. They do need re-foaming, which is something I always wanted to try. These look like excellent candidates for $8.

Every time I go to a pawn shop or thrift store, I find a bunch of junk power tools or women's clothing. Video games. "Jewelry" that looks like it came out of a vending machine. Crap I wouldn't load into a cart for free. OR it's priced so high I might as well buy it new and get a warranty with it.
Nice $8 score. Congrats. This town needs a better class of donors; 'cause the shops here are full of dreck. -
It had been dry here for a long time. That is why I figure some lucky guys must have had wives who talked them into giving up their beloved old gear for shiny new HT gear for Christmas.Stan

Had the Advent 3002's as my first real speakers. Basically the same as the 2002 expect for the dome tweet. Make sure you get the correct surrounds & not generic 8" foams. Rick Cobb, looneytune2001 on ebay, will have what you want.
