I dont know if any of you have heard the Chris Botti in Boston concert, but there is a song that he does called When I fall In love. Its not the song itself I like its what they did on the second half. I love that upbeat jazzy sound that they have.

Problem is I dont know what genre that is or any artist that may play music like that. So I would love and help with any similar artists or jazz types similar to that.

If you skip to the 2:00 mark its where I was talking about.

I not only heard that song but I was at that concert in Boston.....I have all his cd's and dvd's/blu-rays. Truth is I don't have a great knowledge of jazz artists so I'd be hard pressed to name any jazz artists that play similar to Chris Botti. Try to go see him in concert sometime, he always signs autographs and talks to his fans after the show...you can ask him that question.

It sounds a bit improvisational. Not really my cup of tea, but I am sure there are plenty of musicians doing improv.

Try creating a station in Pandora defined by that artist. Pandora will find music with similar characteristics.

I thought this might have been the version of the Chris Botti concert song "When I fall In Love" with the Kingwood Tx. born Renee Olstead singing on it. She's on another of Chris Botti's concert dvds. All in all, I've heard great reviews on this blu ray!

Certainly Botti is another of the school of Miles. If you arent familiar with the Miles Davis catalogue, or just find it daunting by its sheer size. I would start with In a Silent Way, Miles in the Sky and Filles de Kilimanjaro. Of course you could always rock some **** Brew as well, that may bit a bit much though.

For a contemporary angle, try the solo albums by Manu Katche (Neighborhood and Third Round are quite good). He is a long-time session and touring drummer for hire, most notably with Peter Gabriel on occasion. His solo work is straight up jazz, in a similar vein to Botti, in some ways. You may enjoy.

I agree with the Miles type sound.
I'm also reminded of another Miles protege , Wynton Marsalis. Mostly his earlier works.
Take a listen to Live at Blues Alley, which is one of my favorite recordings form Wynton. This is also a live recording, so it has a similar feel.

    For Miles, I'm thinking E.S.P.

Jazz aficionados, help a young whippersnapper out. I heard Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" and I just about melted out of my chair. I'm
looking for that same up beat, but buttery smooth delivery. What other songs would you recommend. I also like "Green Onions". I think it's that 60s big band sound that I really like.
