on the off-chance you haven't found it yet.. you might want to peruse this site :-)
    http://www.fisherconsoles.com/

That should be a very fine sounding amplifier...

Yup, got all that already ..

Am hoping to possibly find the actual paper copy of the manual for giggles if its out there to buy.... for now a scan will suffice ....

I am out of town and then need to get some painting in the nursery done this weekend so at a min its going to be sometime next week before this comes out to play....

But the wife starts new hours which have her working till much later in about a week so I should have play time each night with it for at least a little bit

Here are some pics from my quickie setup. Havent done any cable management to my office setup at all recently, been too busy on the nursery. So no comments about any of that . I will be fixing all that in the future.

    Here is the configuration:

Source: FLAC files on my computer being sent out through USB using the WASAPI driver in XBMC
DAC/Pre: Audio GD-NFB 5 - this unit can be used as a pre ONLY if your using digital inputs. Its got a USB and Coaxial input with one set of RCA outs which can be fixed (DAC mode) or variable (pre mode). I have it in variable mode.
    Amplification: Fisher 460-A tube amp using 4 Soviet EL84/6BQ5 with 2 7247
Speakers: Polk T90e (European version of the Monitor 60's)
Misc: Pepster power cable for the NFB-5, cheap Monoprice 14 gauge SC's with Monster quick connects, Audioquest G-Snake IC's

    78B75EC1-9F22-4AC6-84A7-82B84F0B4F6F-9980-00000BAACE6DAD33.jpg

    6CCFFC0D-3648-435E-BF2B-F86AF16D7C1E-9980-00000BAAE56E07EB.jpg

Impressions: with no EQ I am getting better overall clarity and sound than I was with a TON more weight to the bass in songs. I am loving it, even the wife is singing along with the music while we work on the nursery (the next room over )

I bet if you remove the plastic bin from the left speaker, it will be "like a veil lifted" off your high notes

Glad you got it up and running, try to enjoy it before early February. Just sayin.....

You're probably not going to want to hear this, but even once you've got your nursery set up and that crib is out of the room, your setup is far from ideal, in my opinion. You've got your speakers on either side of your desk. Those speakers are not designed for near-field listening, they won't sound anywhere close to their potential if you're sitting at your desk so close to those speakers. My advice would be to have your desk on the opposite side of your office as the speakers, with the desk facing into the room towards the speakers, rather than facing the wall. That way you're sitting a lot farther away from them. Either that, or I'd look for a pair of monitors that are designed especially for near-field listening.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

No worries neil, your not telling me anything I didnt already know, or wasnt working on correcting anyway .

When I am "truly" listening I have a rocking chair my uncle just build that I am finishing and will be sitting in.

More than likely what will end up happening is that I will buy something like the Audioengine A2's for my desk (or just keep using the build in monitor speakers), and then put the speakers on either side of the entertainment center currently in that room.

So take this picture and put me close to the where the computer hair is with the speakers on either side of the entertainment center toed in a bit (like I said there is stuff in the pics not there, and the rest of it will be out shortly). I am also not dead set on using the floorstanders long term, they are simply what I have already so I can get some other better stuff in the chain and then more than likely I will be moving to some bookshelves with stands.

LOL. I am hoping to pick up the HK Citation 11 in the next month or so in which case I am back in business with the phono input, but then I lose my PC as a source till I get another DAC lol.

Unless of course you'd like to donate your HK 3490 to the cause since you dont need it anymore  lol.

Need is such a relative word...

LOL, trust me I understand. I had that particular unit myself in my office setup and sold it off for MUCH less than I wanted (and wished I hadnt). If you do sell it, I suggest you make it local only as shipping it was a PITA for me.
