Hey all I am new to audio and need some help picking out a receiver. First off, the system will be for my computer setup, will be used for gaming, music, movies, etc. So I chose my speakers and sub-woofer (let me know what you think):

- Bookshelf speakers: http://www.polkaudio.com/products/tsi100 (Let me know if you have a better recommendation).
- Sub-woofer: http://www.polkaudio.com/products/psw110 (Again, let me know if you have a better recommendation).

Now I need to pick out my receiver. I would LIKE to get one that has some HDMI ports but that is not necessary. I am also looking to spend 300 or less. As I said above, I am new to speaker systems and don't know much. Any help is appreciated!

Please dont set up for 2.1 believe me you cant do no wrong-The HDMI ready is for easy switching, Whats cool is HDMI puts out all forms of Audio and it realy hides wires if you dont want it to show, affordable receiver i have to say is a Yamaha that has enough hook ups you want i have 2-one is a 5.1 the other 7.1 if you want good power and reliable get a monster power center, what do you have for the front if you have not got any yet i just got a pair of Monitor 50s from polk audio ebay store for $161 Pair- now they are $179 but still worth it they are refurbished but to be true with you- you will not be disappointed , if you get them and the screens are a little damaged dont worry just call polk on there web sight right when you can and give them the order # & at no charge will send you a new screen realy i did it for my brother for his pair he bought with me blew me away, polk is awesome

Speakers are fine. They are nice sounding.

Look for Yamaha 473 or 573. Pioneer 522k or 822k, or if you catch a sale at BB get the Harmon Kardon 1700. All have HDMI. You dont ever want to limit yourself. You will want to upgrade at some point so might as well get something that will allow you to grow some

I would figure out if the OP is wanting a strictly 2 channel system or just starting out and eventually grow in to a 5+ channel system.

Harmon Kardon HK3490 is hard to beat for striclty 2 channel. If it is being hooked up to a computer I dont see why the op needs video switching capability.

I don't think that's in his price range (unless its used) but it is a solid receiver.

$299 manufacture refurbished, sold directly on Harmon Kardon's ebay page. But like I said we kind of need to know if he is going to keep it 2 channle for his computer or if he is going to later upgrade to a 5 channel or larger.

Completely agree. Someone I know just bought HK3490 to drive a pair of RTi10 using mac mini as a source. This 2-channel receiver has optical and coaxial digital inputs, and has pre-outs if you ever want to try a high-powered stand-alone amplifier.

As jbooker already mentioned, refurb is 299 directly from HK or you can get a new one for 349 from BH photo with free shipping:

Yes I will be using 2.1 only and since it is for my computer I will not be upgrading to 5.1 and after some though, I guess I won't need any video switching so just audio. And the highest I am willing to pay is $350. Thanks for the help so far!

Well that harmon kardon reciever is a hefty one. It is a high current reciever and has the ability to drive a set of speakers better than a lower end 5 or 7 channel audio video reciever.

    Do you need the tuner?

J&R has the Yamaha A-S500 integrated amp (with sub output) for $330 shipped)
