In 1980 nbc broadcast the jets dolphins game with no announcers as an experiment.

I remember thinking i didnt miss them as much as i thought i would, although they obviously add so much to games, (some more than others).

I do remember the 'announcer-less' game (or games -- were there more than one?) Just crowd noise. It was a little different back in the day. But today, I wouldn't notice -- we almost never have the sound turned up on our TV anyway. So every game is 'silent' in our house. After 50+ years of watching sports, you really don't need anybody telling you what's happening - it's pretty obvious.

Madden was my all time favorite, though I will admit as he got older he wore on my nerves too. Back in the day of no announcers, football didn't have the stupid rules it has today. Now you need a lawyer on the sidelines to explain it all.

Yes I remember it. I thought it was interesting. It works if you have a group of people watching to converse about the game. Food and drink also help.

I do think the play by play and color analysts add to the viewing experience. Especially with the instant reply, description of players, etc. Some of the guys are obviously annoying.

I like Troy Aikman, he is one of the better ones.

    I recall it

I know I am tired off announcers extolling the virtues of whichever team is leading. The format is getting old...

Whatever happened to less is more?

Ditto that. We don't watch enough football to keep up with the changes, and sometimes the various rule differences between college and pro go over my head. I certainly don't keep up with the year-to-year changes in both. We just enjoy the occasional game on a quiet weekend, or with friends.

I'd rather just see a pop-up explanation, or maybe a QR code linking to the detailed explanation... or maybe just simpler rules.
