Onkyo TX-NR717 Should I?

So I have been wanting to upgrade my current avr Onkyo 705 for a while. I thought I would never purchase anything else from Onkyo since my 705 has been real POS. I've been eyeing the Denon 33xx and Yamaha A820 recently. But today the I see the Onkyo 717 on sale for $499 almost half the price of the Denon or Yamaha. Have the Onkyo's gotten any better with the newer models? I would really like to save some money here if I can, but if these things are still just awful I will choose something else. Anyone using the newer Onkyo's? What do you think?
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Yeah I really like the avantage line. I probably stay away from the onkyo despite the savings.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. I like my onkyo. It is nice to be able to set each channel frequency. That way your towers, center, and surrounds don't have to be set to the same frequency.
If you get the TX-NR709 you will have Audyssey MultiEq XT which is a lot better than the 717's Audyssey 2EQ.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

I've got a tx-nr515. They still haven't fixed the issue that if you turn the tv on before turning on the receiver, it will give you no video and you have to unplug it and plug it back in. It's annoying if you accidently turn the receiver on first, but not unworkable. Other than that I love the way it sounds compared to my 15 year teac. I got mine for under 300 and with some of the stuff you get it's a great item.
In short, if they fix the firmware, it would be a really great buy. I guess it depends what your used to, it's the nicest receiver I've ever owned though, but that doesn't say a lot. I believe all the newest receivers suffer from the firmware issue as well. -

I have Multi eq xt on my 705, how is it different than 2-EQ?Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Go to a store and demo the Yamaha side by side with an Onkyo. Unless you like a compressed soundstage, stay away from Yamaha. They have good power and features but the sound is very constrained. I would go Onkyo, Denon or Pioneer Elite.
As for the 515 with issues, have you done the latest updates to your TV and 515? These fix 99% of the issues today. I will say Onkyo updates their receivers more than any other brand. They're on top of what's wrong.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.
Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -
Oh and wait to find a deal on the 818. HUGE increase of SQ over the 717. I've seen it on amazon for 679 before too. Stellar receiver for that price.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

If it was me I would still get the 809 or 709 from either accessories4less or Amazon depending on the price difference (used v. new). Both those models IMHO are better than the 717 and close to the 818.
Also note that one of the main reasons folks like the 818 is because of Audyssey XT32 in that model v. Audyssey XT in the 709 and 809. You get more filters for your speakers, however the biggest ommision that occurs only in the 818 is that it is lacking the SubHD implementation which is in every other model with XT32 for all brands but this one model.
For many SubHD was the main reason they liked XT32 as it allows you to EQ two subs that are not the same distance from the listening position independently.
So for me personally given that feature is missing coupled with the price difference between it and the 809 or 709, I would go with them.
For me with my LSi's the reason I like the 809 is mainly is use of an IEC plug so I can use aftermarked powercords which you cant with the 709. If thats not a big issue to you the 709 is honestly a steal at its current price and might beat either of the other options you were looking at...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Yeah, I have all the most recent firmware on the avr, tv is too old (about 6 years) and has no way to update. It's a very common problem that a friend of mine has on his Onkyo as well. Like I said, as long as the tv is turned on first it works fine and didn't stop me from buying it. -
Well I rolled the dice on the 717, $499 delivered what the heck. If its awful oh well I new better I am pretty good at making bad choices. Its half the price of the 818 and has to be better than my failing 705 right? Wait maybe not $#!T stupid internet shopping gets me every time. Thanks for the suggestions guys.Oh, Listen here mister. Just my opinion, but I would cancel the order and get a 809 from amazon for $579. Or better yet, check on it everyday as the price fluctuates. I bought one a few weeks ago for $432 with a separate warranty. It runs cooler than my 609 and is head over heels better than my older Onkyo.

It is supposed to be delivered today. I think I most Avr's struggle with large speakers though. Good thing we have preamp outputs.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world.
