Over the past month I have put together my first home theater system. I have a ONKYO TX-NR717 AVR running Monitor60 Series II for fronts and surrounds, CS2 Series II center, and a PSW505 12". My question is what ohms should I select on the receiver to send to the speakers? I see the specs of the speakers say 8 ohms but when I go into my receiver I can select 4 or 6 ohms. Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the forum fsrris207 and there is probably a little greater sign(>) very near the 6 ohms. So send us some pictures and tell us how it sounds. That 505 is a big sub so the explosions should sound real nice. Best of luck to you. Oh, where are you?

I'll look back into when i get home this afternoon when I get home and take some pictures of the settings. I'm from Dallas, Texas. Another question about crossover and biamping. First is it safe to biamp the speakers with the power rating from the receiver? I know the speakers can handle 200w but is that per channel or the entire speaker? If I do biamp would it be beneficial to set one of the crossovers higher, say 80 and the other lower say 40 or full range? Could that produce a cleaner sound stage in the front of the room?

Hook them up regular for a couple reasons. When you use the rear suround terminals to power part of the fronts when running a 5.1 system your actually putting a 7.1 load on your AVR. AVR's are rated at 2 channels driven. The more channels your powering the less watts per channel you have.

When you biamp you don't get to accumulate watts. Say you think your running two sets 110 watts. One to the mid driver and tweeter, and the other run to the spiders. It isn't 220 watts because when you remove the jumper strap you now have 2 seperate circuts. So it is 110 to the top half and 110 to the bottom.
    AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808
    Amplifier: Carver A-753x 250 watts x 3
Fronts: Polk RTI A7 (modded by Trey VR3)
Center: CSI A4 (modded by Trey VR3)
    Rear: FXI A4
    Sub: Polk DSW Pro 660wi
    TV: LG Infinia 50PX950 3D
    Speaker Cable: AudioQuest Type 8
    IC: AudioQuest Black Mamba II

the 717 when biamping actually disables the rear surrounds in the 7.1 setup so you will only be able to use 5.1 setup no harm done unless you are gonna utilize the 7.1/7.2 of the 717 amp. when listening to music you can always just put in stereo to hear just your mains

What jbooker was saying is that the load is the *equivilant* to a 7.1 load. It may disable the output but the load on the amp is still there because in essence, you are presenting a load of 7 speakers to the system, not 5.
