Yamaha CR 3020 sighting!

There is currently a Yamaha CR 3020 reciever for sale on ebay. It looks to be in fantastic shape. Sightings of this receiver are almost as rare as sightings of Big Foot or the Loch Ness Monster. It is my dream receiver but it is definitely too rich for my blood - the latest bid is at $965 and it is only the 2nd day of the auction. There are 6 more days to go! I can only dream! Wow!!!

    That's a nice vintage piece but for 1200 or more you can buy one heck of a 2 channel amp!

    Wow, that looks old school for sure. I like it. What makes it so valuable-is it because it is solely rare vintage or is it the build quality of it? Makes me want to go to estate sales and look for one...then sell it!!

    It is up to $1075 with 5 days still left to go!

    There are a number of reasons why it is so valuable: quality, low production numnber, supply and demand, etc. The CR 3020 was produced in very low numbers in 1978 as the BIG BROTHER to the Yamaha CR 1020 and 2020 receivers which are equally great reeivers in their own right. The CR 3020 is a monster 160 watt receiver that weighs about 80lbs. It cost $1500 new in 1978 which was a hell of a lot of money in those days and was Yamah's top of the line receiver. Because it was so expensive, Yamaha made a limited number of these receivers since there was a limited market of people who could afford it. It is one of the top vintage receivers ever made and some would arguably rate it as THE best vintage receiver of the 1970's receiver wars or of all time. It rarely shows up for sale anymore and, when it does, due to (small) supply and (extremely high) demand, it goes for big money. I will not be surprised to see the one currently listed sell for between $1700 and $2000 !
