DAC Board

I am looking for a DAC board that I can install in my preamp to provide an SPDIF input. I do have plenty of DC voltage that I can draw from the power supply (up to 60V), and only need the single SPDIF input for a digital coax. Would prefer balanced analog output, but not required. I would also prefer an all-in-one board that does not require an additional receiver or output stage, but am open to a good deal. Please let me know if you have anything that fits the bill, or where I might find a board for preferably $100 or less.

With such a nice preamp, why settle for a mediocre DAC?

Why do you ask such good questions...

I may have just the thing you seek. It's a Texas Instruments PCM1792 evaluation board. It has TI NE5534 op amps as well as a pair of TI Burr Brown Opa134's. It has a Cirrus Logic CS8414 receiver and of course a Burr Brown PCM1792 dac. The board was intended for evaluating the 1792 dac and was manufactured by TI. It has coax and optical inputs and unbalanced stereo and balanced mono output. It only needs a power supply and maybe two more op amp chips. By the way the op amps are in socketed connectors so op amp swapping is possible. Here is the TI data sheet on this board. http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sleu037/sleu037.pdf

    Sounds interesting...

Do you have pictures and how much do you want for it?

The one I have is identical to the one in the post FTGV linked. As for price....perhaps a trade of some kind. I won it in a karma so it owes me nothing. Postage to ship and a small token. I'm collecting cassettes now if you have any.

I was really intending to work on this dac but haven't found the time so if it goes to an enthusiastic polkie I'll be happy.

I'll try to get a shipping quote in the next day or two. I'm working this weekend so it may not be until early next week but I will do it asap.

Good for me; just give me an amount and I'll paypal the funds over whenever.

Haven't found anything decent to trade yet; some nice binding posts, let me keep digging...
